Luxurious Franschhoek Manor House in Africa by INHOUSE

Wednesday, June 13th, 2018

Article source: INHOUSE

Award-winning design studio, Inhouse, has completed the interior of a privately-owned manor house in Franschhoek in the picturesque Cape Winelands. The home was built from scratch in collaboration with Chris de Hart Architects with the aim of capturing the sweep of a spacious plantation-style country estate, with aesthetic touches inspired by the film Casablanca.

The house features large custom-made French doors that open outwards onto courtyards and verandas that complement the landscape. Inside, the house is made up of spacious rooms with high ceilings that display ornate moulding and coffer details. These details are key decorative features and a strategic choice by Inhouse intended to soften the vastness of the space. A large collection of antique furniture was included in the design and Inhouse created an interior scheme that would be sympathetic to the finishing.

Travelstart in Cape Town, Africa by Inhouse

Sunday, August 13th, 2017

Article source: Samantha Kerr

Already nearing its second decade, Travelstart remains one of Africa’s leading online travel agencies and booking websites. Having recently relocated its Cape Town headquarters to a two-and-a-half-storey set of offices in Longkloof Studios, located just off the bustling hub that is Kloof Street; it is natural that the company should wish to set itself up in a working space that would reflect its efficiency and modernity. The initial interior design concept was inspired by the office featured in Nancy Meyers’ 2015 comedy film The Intern, upon which Travelstart’s CEO wished to model the new space. From there, Inhouse Director, Phillip Wyatt and Senior Designer, Chrismari Loubser, were delighted to help make the vision happen.

In this flat expanse, it is difficult to understand the tower at the first glance, At this distance, it seems to be a rock.

Approaching the landscape widens, the climate softened through the shadows projected on the ground.

One enters a maze of streets that recall the eastern souks.

Droneport in Rwanda, Africa by Foster + Partners

Friday, October 2nd, 2015

Article source: Foster + Partners

Lord Foster has launched proposals for the Droneport project in Africa to support cargo drone routes capable of delivering urgent and precious supplies to remote areas on a massive scale. The project is a collaboration between Redline partners led by Afrotech, École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL); the Norman Foster Foundation; and Foster + Partners. Cargo drone routes have utility wherever there is a lack of roads. Just as mobile phones dispensed with landlines, cargo drones can transcend geographical barriers such as mountains, lakes, and unnavigable rivers without the need for large-scale physical infrastructure. Just a third of Africans live within two kilometres of an all-season road, and there are no continental motorways, almost no tunnels, and not enough bridges that can reach people living in far-flung areas of the continent.
