Two dwellings in Aix-en-Provence, France by PAN Architecture

Sunday, January 30th, 2022

Article source: PAN Architecture

This is a project of two individual houses grouped. A family from Aix-en-Provence living abroad but very attached to its mother land wanted to build two contemporary houses able to accommodate all or part of this family. Two independent houses responding to a versatility of uses: partial occupation, partial or complete rent, permanent or seasonal, future extensions.

The architectural response consists in proposing a large simple and homogeneous roof able to unify the different and separate components of the program. a « figure capable » at the site scale that houses both dwellings and their future developments.

Arena du Pays d’Aix in Aix-en-Provence, France by Auer Weber and CHRISTOPHE GULIZZI Architecte

Monday, July 30th, 2018

Article source: Auer Weber and CHRISTOPHE GULIZZI Architecte

The new handball arena is situated on a freeway intersection in the south-west of Aix-en- Provence. The façade is made up of metallic ellipses stacked like layered contours. At first sight, the arena has no front or back- since every side of the façade is treated equally. Only the differently arranged ellipses indicate the front of the arena. The large form embraces an events hall for 6 000 to 8 500 spectators plus a smaller training hall. The arena reacts to the site through geometrical modifications: the ellipses, hovering above another, arranged with a much stronger shift towards the forecourt than to the other sides, thus forming a large canopy to welcome the visitors of the arena. The undersides of the protruding ellipses are illuminated to manifest the building as a whole. In the evening the lights on the undersides additionally help to move the focus of the arena towards the forecourt.

Media Library and University Residence in Aix-en-Provence, France by ANMA

Thursday, March 22nd, 2018

Article source: ANMA

This operation, which forms part of the Mirabeau Campus Plan, describes three complementary university programs – a media library, a restaurant, and a residence- that must be linked, but each has their own identity and operational autonomy. This multiple programming plays, simultaneously, with the imbrication and the distinction with regard to the existing building and its specific image.

MaisonA in Aix-en-Provence, France by Pietri Architectes

Thursday, November 2nd, 2017

Article source: v2com

MaisonA is nestled on the side of the hill on the plot. The building is discreet, but its pure lines show great strength of character. The materials used are contemporary, but the whole fits in perfectly with the protected site. The main materials PietriArchitectes used a wood and white concrete.

MaisonA, it is a simple volume built in integrally coloured concrete, with wooden shutters, set over a base anchored in the hillside.

We can place this ground between countryside and city.

Villa VS in Aix-en-Provence, France by T3 architecture

Thursday, February 9th, 2012

Article source: T3 architecture

Located near Aix-en-Provence, in a rural area, this project plays with the typology of agricultural farm houses architecture. The clients’ brief was the refurbishing of this “mas provençal” facing an olive tree field. They were in demand of a strong contemporary element that could bring a totally new identity to the house. The architects therefore proposed to replace the former farmhouse part of the existing construction, which was slightly difficult to adapt because of its minor construction quality and it’s chaotic partition, by a new timber frame structure that will host a spacious living room and the “en suite” main bedroom. The preserved part of the existing construction being dedicated to the children and friend’s rooms.
