The site gently slopes down to a residential area with a forest in the background. Although there are adjacent residential areas, you will be in deep woods and even have a chance to encounter antelope and raccoons as you walk toward the back of the house.

Yunoeki Oyu in Japan by Kengo Kuma and Associates

Oyu onsen is a famous hot spring in Kazuno, Akita. We designed a community center here incorporating a shop, café, open-air theater, park, footbath, and biotope under one large roof. In order to create a dynamic space which varies according to the diverse programs, we referred to mage wappa, a round lunch basket made of thin wood, a traditional craft in Akita’s. Cylinders of LVL (laminated veneer lumber) reference mage wappa and comprise the structure of the building. The assemblage of those rings then functions not only as a transparent structure but also as a partition or a shelf when needed.

Article source: SUGAWARADAISUKE Architects Inc.

This is new Regional hub of Gojyome, Akita prefecture by Sake Brewery established in 1688.

We designed micro expansion with Big doors and Triangular canopies to rearrange structural stability, thermal condition and new functions, after demolishing existing expansion parts. Intermediate space by micro expansion converted backyard parking to main event space with creating new regional network through the main car street →inside space → sake brewery →market street.
