This week the doors of the Jonas’ residential building opened in Amsterdam. Jonas’ is a remarkable building, located beside the port of IJburg, containing 273 apartments and a range of public and shared amenities. Forming a sustainable and inviting heart for the neighbourhood, the building enhances social cohesion in the still relatively new urban district. In addition, Jonas’ has achieved the highest attainable sustainability rating: BREEAM Outstanding. This is a unique achievement for a residential building in the Netherlands.

Nº1 is an exclusive penthouse located in one of the most iconic streets in the city of Amsterdam, Vondelstraat, right next to the Vondelpark.
The uniqueness of how this house has been conceived is the way space and volumen has been understood on a totally new level, offering an enormous variety of spaces, sequences and visual relations.
In August 2013 the City of Amsterdam gave the go-ahead for the redevelopment of an old store room under one of their offices on Jodenbreestraat in Amsterdam into a multifunctional plaza. This plan is part of the new flexible housing concept for their offices, which can be densified through realization of such plazas. CUBE is, after a closed competition, asked to develop this 530 m2 plaza. According to the City of Amsterdam it had to become an attractive area with an extraordinary appearance.
The house originates from 1934 and was relatively untouched. The goal was to make it a lot more energy efficient and quite a bit larger. The old house did have a lot of character and details we wanted to keep. With the new extension we wanted to merge a completely different style and atmosphere with this 1930’s ambiance; the secure and warmth atmosphere of the old part combined with the open and transparent feel of a modern home. The floor of the open kitchen diner in the new extension is placed two steps lower than the living room in the older part. Looking from the backyard you can’t really see the classic front of the house. Yet from the street you can hardly see the modern extension in the back. And yet on the inside the 2 merge easily.
At the corner of Donker Curtiusstraat and Van Hallstraat in Amsterdam, Studioninedots has created the surprising transformation of a prominent, 1964 office building. In the new DC Van Hall, we introduce studio housing for graduates and students, which together with creative workplaces and small-scale entrepreneurs bring new life to the surrounding Staatsliedenbuurt neighbourhood.
On the ground level of Westbeat Studioninedots’ mixed-use building in Amsterdam-West a new office landscape has been created. With ‘Wet Beast’, Studioninedots presents a workplace concept in which three mystical objects provide space for experimentation, interaction and spontaneity within the social sphere of a working environment.

The former Diamond Exchange, Capital C Amsterdam, dating from 1911, has undergone a major renovation designed by the architectural studio ZJA in collaboration with Heyligers architects. The monumental building has been largely restored to the original Gerrit van Arkel design and has regained its original allure. The Dutch monument is crowned with a striking, spatial dome of glass and steel; the High Light. Common thread running through the building are about twenty art and design projects.

Valley’s three peaks of varied heights reach up to a maximum of 100 meters at which the publicly accessible Sky-bar sits, spread out over the top two stories, offering panoramic views over Amsterdam. The building consists of 196 apartments, 7 stories of offices, a three-story underground parking with 375 parking spots and various retail and cultural facilities. From street level, a pedestrianised path, running along retails functions, terraces and roof gardens, leads up to the central valley-area spread across the 4th and 5th level and surrounds the central tower. Internationally renowned landscape architect Piet Oudolf designed all of Valley’s vegetation, focusing on a year-round green appearance. The project derives its name from the publicly accessible valley.
3×3 architecture has completed the interior design of this newly built row-house in the Eastern islands of Amsterdam.
The clients, a professional couple with three children, wanted to leave the busy city-center and relocate to this child friendly neighborhood with an abundance of green areas, direct access to water and freedom for the children to play on the street. They found a newly built house on the Steigereiland in Amsterdam. The house was the last of a row of houses, a corner house with lots of light, facing a public square and with a back garden.
Over the past five years Droogbak, an iconic 19th century building next to Amsterdam Central Station, has been transformed into an office space for the 21st century. KCAP was commissioned by Allianz Real Estate, together with consulting engineers ABT, and was responsible for the spatial transformation of the listed building; Fokkema & Partners drew on this in their interior design for law firm Clifford Chance. Focal point was to create a future-proof monument that enables a new way of working.
