The Walta-Elmers family commissioned VMX Architects to design their house on ‘Kleine Rieteiland’, one of the islands of IJburg. The client wanted a spacious, open house with plenty of light. The plot measures 8 by 30 metres. By studying several models, the concept of ‘woonlandschap’ (living-landscape) was chosen. The ground floor, containing the living and kitchen, in a split level typology, has the possibility to completely open to the outside and thereby create a partly covered living-landscape of 8 by 30 metres.
The program consists of an office function on the first deck and a restaurant on deck two and three, an extra story has been created spreading the restaurant over two floors. At 25 meters height, a large public terrace is situated on the roof with a fantastic 360-degree view. The distinctive red and white-checkered building rests on 12-meter high columns and has been placed 15 meters of shore. A steel footbridge leads up to the building, first running beneath the island and then guiding you through the enormous steel construction.
Van Beuningen square is located at the van Hallstraat, West district of Amsterdam. Building an underground two-layer parking facility gives cause for the redesign of the entire square. Based on the initial ideas of the West district of Amsterdam and Dijk&Co Landscape Architects, after a small closed competition, Concrete was asked to design the pavilions positioned on the square.

The site is truly unique: the most western corner of the Minervahaven, overlooking the Mercuriushaven and the river IJ. Well connected to both the city center as the rest of the world, both by car, public transport and bike.
Villa S2 on IJburg island is a three-story high split-level villa with spacious design, high ceilings and great openness to the waterfront. The form of the villa had to be a very compact one. This is controlled by the relatively small plot so close to the water on one hand and client needs on the other.

This project concerns the interior of a traditional shaving salon, housed in a 19th-century shop in the city center of Amsterdam. For a raw, but warm atmosphere, mainly natural materials are used: a floor of old sawn floor beams, clay plaster, pine plates, leather and concrete.
Façade for a residential building by Abbink X de Haas architects and housing cooperation de Key in the center of Amsterdam. Aluminum sheets are perforated with a pattern that allows the shapes to be bent up or down. When bent up the surface catches the (sun)light and bent down the surface is shaded. In this way intricate graphics can be applied onto the building with punch perforated panels without the use of expensive laser cutting. Bent turns shadow into ink.
In collaboration with EB Ontwerp, Studio Dave Keune Designed and realized a library for primary school Fiep Westendorp. It was our goal to create an environment that excites and tempts the children to read books again despite these digital days. The result is spiral shaped bookshelves that curl through the space. The spiral starts high and slopes down while making its turns.

Software used: Created the library with Rhinoceros.Did not use Grasshopper to create the top – every part was rotated by hand and then made flat for the cnc mill.Because you can’t create a 3d surface with flat plywooden pieces we forced every top part a bit into the top flow.
The SODAE-House is the house of the architect. The site is a private island at an intersection of waterways, south of Amsterdam. It is one of the precious pieces of unspoiled polder landscape, left open just outside the city. If the current trend of rapid urbanisation continues, it will soon be one of the last pieces of characteristic Dutch landscape in this part of the Netherlands. It is the choice of this particular spot, that is to say the perception of the landscape, which has dictated the character of the design.
