After 10 years of leasing space in a suburban office building, the Livestrong Foundation found its permanent home in the 1950s-era Gulf Coast Paper Co. Spartan in Austin, Texas by LVMinc

Thursday, October 4th, 2012

Article source: LVMinc

After years of working in film in NYC, Currie Person decided to take a leap of faith and return to her hometown of Austin, Texas and open a housewares boutique. She called upon LVMinc to help make her vision come to life.

Over a long weekend in Austin, Larah sketched and designed the concept for Spartan. For a long and narrow space, storage and display were the main requirements and guests needed to feel free to browse around and not feel confined within the space. Larah solved this by introducing a full length wall of tiered cantilevered shelves with an integrated lip to avoid items from falling and below, a suspended millwork piece for additional back up storage.

Riverview Gardens Residence in AUSTIN, TEXAS by Bercy Chen Studio

Thursday, July 26th, 2012

Article source:  Bercy Chen Studio

RIVERVIEW GARDENS IS A SERIES OF 3 IDENTICAL HOUSES LOCATED IN AUSTIN, TEXAS, ONE BLOCK NORTH OF LAKE AUSTIN (NOW LADY BIRD LAKE). THE HOMES WERE INSPIRED BY HAMILTON POOL, A DEEP NATURAL ESCARPMENT WHICH FORMS A DRAMATIC WATERFALL NEAR AUSTIN. IN THE SPIRIT OF THAT WATERFALL, RAINWATER IS DIRECTED TO THE END OF EACH RIVERVIEW GARDEN HOUSE AND FALLS 3 STORIES IN A SHEET TO FORM A DRAMATIC WATERFALL, NOT UNLIKE THE RARIN SCREEN FOUND IN CLASSICAL CHINESE GARDENS. THE RAINWATER IS THEN COLLECTED IN AN 80’ LONG SHARED POND WHICH ON A BREEZY DAY PROVIDES SOME NATURAL COOLING TO THE HOUSES.

Beverly Skyline Residence in Austin, Texas by Bercy Chen Studio

Wednesday, July 11th, 2012

Article source: Bercy Chen Studio

Beverly Skyline Residence, located in Austin, Texas, is a single-family residence and consumes 2800 sq. feet of its 1-acre property lot. The homes remodeling transformation was taken on by Bercy Chen Studio, a local architecture firm with design and build capabilities. When taking on a new project that has a clear site and limited restrictions, the designer has more flexibility to create and explore new styles, resources, and building materials. However, taking a preexisting home and transforming it into a modern 21st century home, equipped with new building technologies and recyclable energy consumption in mind, creates many obstacles in both the design and construction period and therefore requires more innovation from the designer.

The East Village in Austin, Texas by Bercy Chen Studio LP

Wednesday, January 11th, 2012

Article source: Bercy Chen Studio LP

Located in the Revitalization District of East 11th Street, this vertical mixed-use project has become a unique focal point in a quickly growing neighborhood. The project includes 11 retail stores and offices, 20 residential condominiums of which 20% are affordable housing, and roof top decks accessible by all residents. The unique solar screen on the south and west facades is just one of the many aspects of the design that contributes to the 3?Star Green Building Rating. The East Village is also one of the City of Austin’s S.M.A.R.T. (Safe, Mixed-Income, Accessible, Reasonably Priced, Transit Oriented) Housing developments. The East 11th Street neighborhood in Austin has seen considerable change since 2001. Once a largely ignored portion of Austin, E. 11th Street is now home to many different retail shops, restaurants, offices, and cultural groups. The East Village seeks to capture this diversity by developing a dynamic and creative environment for its residents, combining retail shops and small commercial offices with residential units on the upper floors. On the fourth floor are two green roofs; each with a wonderful view of downtown.
