The New Gerngross in Vienna, Austria by LOVE architecture and urbanism ZT GmbH

Wednesday, October 31st, 2012

Article source: LOVE architecture and urbanism ZT GmbH

The design concept for the renovation of the interior of the department store followed one main principle: the central atrium should become the store’s new nucleus and the central orientation point of the building because this is where the horizontal and vertical visual axes and the main building access are united.

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2012

Article source: Josef Weichenberger architects + Partner

In the heart of Vienna’s 11th district, on a lot densely vegetated by an old tree population, a new game-changing geriatrics center was to be realized.

Central idea:

High-quality dwelling for care-dependent senior citizens in the comforting atmosphere of a green oasis – rather then the common, sterile, hospital-style atmosphere of geriatrics centers as they used to be.

Bax Box in Seekirchen, Austria by Strobl Architekten ZT GmbH

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2012

Article source: Strobl Architekten ZT GmbH

The German term Backskiste (BAXBOX) is used for the locker on board of a ship in which everything that is lying around unnecessarily can be stored quickly and easily. This Baxbox contains everything a boathouse owner will never miss but had always urgently needed. The new box was erected on the existing foundation of a small old house, whose bottom slab can be newly leveled with a simple jack to adjust to any changes. The floors and ceilings are made of solid glued laminated timber and half-timbered walls. It is covered with a protective layer of Silano foil and thick reeds. This allows the prefabricated box to match its environment in terms of functions and materials.

Article source: Philipp Bechter

The design of a cemetery is based on the beliefs and their funeral rites, which in turn say a lot about the particular understanding of nature and social relations.

This fact should also be shown clearly in the new cemetery project for Muslims in Vorarlberg.

Seminar and Conference Cristal in Tyrol, Austria by MHM architects

Tuesday, September 18th, 2012

Article source: MHM architects

Already for many years the therapeutical treatment of physical and emotional disturbances or illnesses by the application of light has been acknowledged medically. Light has different effects on the human body depending on the spectral colour: so a firm red has an exciting effect  while violet light seems calming.

Generationen Wohnen Am Muehlgrund in Vienna, Austria by ARTEC Architekten

Sunday, September 16th, 2012

Article source: ARTEC Architekten

The Vienna rapid-transit line known as U2 originates at Karlsplatz and heads north, crossing the Danube. In Stadlau the tracks are elevated and pass over a train station. Just to the north of this convergence lies the Stadlau rapid-transit station. The tracks continue on, turning to the east and still elevated – at a height of 12 metres in this segment, and each direction supported separately. Parallel and to the south of the elevated tracks, at a distance of 8 to 12 metres from them, is the site of the 7-storey, 90-metre-long, 15-metre-wide building – the allowable massing determined by an urban design competition. The bar-shaped building, with only a minimal strip of land surrounding it, screens the low-slung structures to the south – also just recently completed – from the tracks.
