Julia Tower in Barcelona, Spain by Sergi Pons Arquitecte

Friday, November 9th, 2012

Article source: Sergi Pons Arquitecte

This project forms part of the urbanization that is taking place in one of the lots left over after the construction of the Ronda de Barcelona, a bypass road, in 1992. A sports centre, a residential development and an old people’s home will all share the same space, creating a public area that will stretch from the street to a square giving access into the different facilities.

Barceló Raval Hotel in Barcelona, Spain by CMV Architects

Saturday, October 20th, 2012

Article source: CMV Architects

The Barceló Raval hotel wants to hide a big party behind a quiet icon. It is not in competition with the history of the place where it has been building neither with the existing facades. But the hotel wants to take part of that atmosphere and that story. So the stainless steel metal mesh that surrounds the hotel gives it a contemporary and mysterious air at the same time, because hide an atmosphere that blow up in the interior. The hotel goes on with the chosen recipe for the future combining leisure, business, evasion and game. The building with elliptical floor designed by CMV Architects summarizes a new proposal for the neighborhood: expressive contention for a future away from the old brothels. However, the new hotel exudes a cosmopolitan atmosphere that revives the old port district.

Catalonia’s International Centre For High Performance In Sailing in Barcelona, Spain by Mestura Arquitectes

Friday, October 5th, 2012

Article source: Mestura Arquitectes

The objective of this intervention is to include under the large pergola Photovoltaic in the Forum Park of Barcelona, a program of the International Center for High Performance Sailing.

The uniqueness of the spaces to be treated, starting considerations requires both the environment and the possible actions in outer space, as the configuration of existing architectural elements, which determine many of the decisions of the project. We therefore propose a treatment in the facades that seek not to contrast with the gigantic scale of the element. The south facade is delayed until the first bay of the current structure to avoid contact of the new facilities with existing structural elements, while on the north side openings are covered with a curtain overlapping continuous acts wooden slats as a unitary element and neutral.

Tuesday, September 18th, 2012

Article source: Gus Wustemann Architects

“It is not a building but a district” District is the way a human being lives in urban context.

We choose of the shelf low cost industrial materials to create these urban spaces. There is no hierarchy within these surfaces that makes it urban and authentic. Therefore each surface transmits a feeling of purity and coexistence in relation with its  surrounding. The statics of Melon District are defined by the authenticity of the materials. There is no decoration.

Crusch Alba in Barcelona, Spain by Gus Wüstemann Architects

Tuesday, August 7th, 2012

Article source: Gus Wüstemann Architects

The project is our flat in Barcelona in the Gotico area, in the center of the historic part of Barcelona. A challenge was the very heterogenic floor plan, which was interrupted by various light patios. The other issue is little daylight in the old town of Barcelona, as the sun and the heat were considered rather a burden in the old times.

There is one major façade facing the street Banys Nous, with big windows and balconies.
