Film Theatre of Catalonia in Barcelona, Spain by Mateo Arquitectura

Article source: Mateo Arquitectura

Headquarters of the new Film Theatre of Catalonia in the Raval district of Barcelona, First prize, public competition 2004

The ruins mark the structure of the buildings. The Roman forum formalizes the plane of foundations and drains. In the old town, my building sets out to express itself as pure structure—no cladding, no finishes. The bare concrete beams-cum-walls that form the façades are very varied, proving themselves members of the family of the dilapidated neighbouring walls, where plaster crumbles to reveal their original central mass.

The Project was to design a CEIP 2L primary school that would conform to the functionality outlines devised by the Catalonia Regional Government’s Department of Education.  The school has been built on a small plot and, as is standard for this kind of centre, arranged in a U shape around the infants’ playground, which frees up the rest of the plot for the primary playground.  The school is in the Alameda district of Cornellá de Llobregat and is bounded on the north by a football pitch, on the east by Silici Street, by a green area on the south and by the Ronda de Dalt de Barcelona on the west.

Spring in Pantone 375C, Mas Rodó winery in Barcelona, Spain by Carles Sala from SALA FERUSIC Architects

Sunday, September 4th, 2011

Article source: Carles Sala from SALA FERUSIC Architects, Barcelona

The Mas Rodó winery consists of a refurbishment and transformation of an agricultural warehouse built in the seventies on top of an old Catalan cottage of the XVIII century, where the structure remained and the intervention focused on defining an image and conditioning the space for a contemporary wine production.

Over an original masonry skirting, the new wooden and steel façade redefines the volume of the building and takes comfort among nature and history. A system of double skin temperates the interior of the wine-producing room to optimize the control in must’s fermentation, as well as it minimizes the energy consumption; while the thickness of the old stone wall provides great humidity and temperature conditions for wine-aging. Two volumes brake the opacity of the building and relate the exterior and the interior, that is, the vineyard and the wine: the window of the tasting room in the south, over the fields, and the porche in the west, for the entrance for grape harvest. Covered in corten steel, both inject the interior with brightness and landscape through a spring-like Pantone 375C colour.

Topographic House in Barcelona, Spain by MiAS ARCHITECTS

Wednesday, July 6th, 2011

Article source: MiAS ARCHITECTS

The house lays along its longitudinal axis: the view on the landscape, towards the sea, is —again— one of the most important values for the project, which unfolds itself and gets mixed with topography. The building is horizontal, elongated, sinuous, catching the landscape, moving delicately in order to obtain the best views, without shutting spaces.

iGuzzini Illuminazione España Headquarters in Barcelona, Spain by MiAS ARCHITECTS

Sunday, July 3rd, 2011

Article source: Josep Miàs – MiAS ARCHITECTS

Project description: Il Cielo iGuzzini does not belong to the ground on which it sits. Like a balloon, Leonidov’s aerostat, it will attempt to escape from this world, seeking a new sky.  It will describe the conditions of the light, natural and artificial, in its interior, it will refer to its origins, recognizing a geometric order, but above all it will want to speak to us of aspirations.

Moored to the ground, it belongs to this place, and to all other places.
