A small courtyard, a back entrance on the kitchen side, a hut, a dead tree, garden boots, smells, be in touch with nature, birdsong, animals, a vegetable garden, a shed for tools, a pergola, ivy along the walls, piles of wood, a tree under which to shelter, a forest, an under-growth, a river, an attic, a chicken coop, a bench, a pond, a well, a fountain, a path…
Living outside, space, air, light. How to live the countryside? How do you live in a forest? What are the ambiances? What are the specific characteristics of a habitat in the countryside?
The existing headquarters of the Agglomeration community has been established in Bayonne since 1990, in a building located in the heart of a wooded acre in its southern part, accessible from the avenue Foch located below.
The project had several objectives:
. To come up with a boardroom that could welcome all councilors and the public
. To offer additional workspaces for the different services.
. To fortify the Agglomeration community dynamism through the figure of a contemporary extension.
Marinadour. A dense complex of dwellings on top of a podium of shops and car parks.
The Park generated by reorganizing circulation and segregating the traffic above from pedestrians, with the massive presence of vegetation between the footpaths.
Rivadour. A continuous urban block that follows the river before breaking off towards the city. Permeable on the ground floor.
“Bayonne Marinadour is the first intervention to be completed in a complex of actions marking the new entrance to the city of Bayonne. The other elements are a park produced by remodelling the approach road to Henri Grenet Bridge and, overlooking it, the built complex of Rivadour.
It is a project of great importance for Bayonne, not just due to its sheer size (some 70.000 m2 of built surface area) but also because it is the new gateway to the city. The brief is divided between two city blocks that contain social and free market housing, a shopping centre, a hotel, a small area of offices and car parks, and the central part that joins the two blocks, channeling the flow of car and pedestrian transit.
This project answers to the necessity of build cheaply, offering individual housings in wood environmentally. Wood allows thermal and acoustics comfort, and gives an original and contemporary side to the project. It proposes a new image of social housing.
