Boxing Cat Brewery’s flagship Beijing venue aims to bring you the ultimate craft beer and dining experience. Beer, as always, is the focus, with an on-site brewery visible through the glass behind the bar, large tap wall, chrome pipe ceiling feature and industrial metal clad counter.
The softened approach in materials contrasts the industrial elements which overall creates a more homely and comfortable dining experience.
The dining space makes reference to a typical tap-house interior with natural woods, concrete tile and an exposed high ceiling. The look is softened by fabric bench seating and Scandinavian styled furniture. Pops of maroon red, large art walls and screens inject Boxing Cat Brewery’s personality and brand throughout the space.

How to awaken the vitality of the city and reshape the spirit of places has become a core social issue that design faces.

The “Niannujia/Jiaoding” brand is a female brand in which two brands are put together in a space.
Target customers are women between the ages of 30 and 40.
Women of this age exude a unique charm, they are beautiful but not floating on the surface, mature and fragrant. Young girls may be relaxed about life, but they are different. They are used to exploring themselves and are free from the inside out. we have long noticed two different brand characteristics. But this design has to be put together in one space, and to ensure the personality of the two different brands. Nian Nujia has an elegant and clear edge. Jiaoding is the power of modern fashion and simplicity.
Being situated in Beigou Village, Huairou, at the foot of the Mutianyu Great Wall, Beijing, such a space, seems to have much broader meaning than what it is being called.
A profitable extension of a newly constructed village resort, a more proactive and urbanized manner of communication emerged in the village, a sweet integration of originally contrasting life styles, an unprecedented cultural renaissance, a hint of the rural areas of China starting to be sliced apart as how it happened in the cities, or it is merely a space for food?
Architecture, through the manipulation of Space, is the real-life magic for creating a reality that only previously existed in the imagination. This is the vision WAY Studio had when designing recently completed project “Aye by Meeting Someone” restaurant in Beijing — to bring dreams into actuality, to design a spatial performance, and to provide a transient surreal experience to all who dare enter.

Superimpose converted an 85 square meter, dark, confined and deteriorated loft apartment in Beijing into a bright, green and spacious environment for a young Beijing couple. The transformation was designed and built within a time span of 2 months.
Beijing Television (BTV) invited Superimpose to participate in a TV show, which focuses on renovating existing apartments or small houses, showing the transformation results and design process. Superimpose utilised this opportunity to create public awareness towards the poor living and interior standards of Beijing apartments. This project showcases the design philosophy on residential projects based on the principles of natural (day) light, spatiality, neatness/ simplicity, sustainability and its close relation to green.
This project is designed for Lens, located in 1958 Industrial Avenue in Beijing, as their head office and event place. The building was built in 1958 and served as a warehouse of Transportation Department of Beijing Commercial Storage Company. The Large span pitched roof, supported by wood trusses and iron joints, is a typical warehouse typology in 1950s and indicates an aesthetic of structural purification.
In the past few years, I have seen van Gogh’s Starry Night and Sunflowers on separate occasions. At that time, I was not so touched – perhaps my mood wasn’t set up quite right. Last year, when working on a renovation project, I revisited my impression of those paintings and had some new revelations.
The project site sits in a hidden spot in the heart of Beijing’s CBD area. We were asked to renovate a three-story tall 80’s light industry factory building with a 4-6m span. The entire industrial complex had had its façade system redesigned by Kengo Kuma, and we were not allowed much room for expression on the exterior. Function-wise, it was initially purposed as a yoga school; half-way through construction, however, the client decided it would become home to an educational organization, and before long, the project brief went from a kindergarten to a shared working space. Towards the end, one no longer knew what the project was about.
Dongshang is a contemporary Japanese restaurant with wide selections of Sake and Japanese whisky located in central Beijing. The restaurant consists of a dining hall with a bar counter and two private rooms. The client requests to design a Japanese restaurant also appearing Chinese style at the same time.
In response to the demand, a bamboo is developing into the entire space in different forms. The significant material is traditionally used in various ways in Japan as well as China. Bamboo strips fixed on walls are folded at the ceiling, and they make tunnel-like spaces enclosed with bamboos at two of hallways. The light passing through the bamboo strips of the ceiling like sunshine filtering through the trees illumined the bamboo walls. The dining hall is also surrounded by the bamboo walls expanding from two hallways located on both sides of the dining hall. 3cm diameter bamboos are put together at the ceiling makes a roof over the dining hall creating a sense of intimacy. Illuminated liquor bottles are displayed on shelve plates made with black steel at a backbar featuring the vertical bamboo louvers. The element with strong connections to both of Japanese and Chinese cultures and traditions is iteratively highlighted in the restaurant.
