Elegance is the luxury of struggling, the light in darkness, dramatic conflict between silence and noise and an inherent attitude which comes from both the love of life and cognition and persistence in self-consciousness.
And for space elegance is its characteristic which is an annotation of the vitality of space. In the process of urban development, spaces with elegance will blossom with new life. Eventually, they will blend with time and culture.
TaiheZunFu are refined decorated luxury residences located in Beijing CBD and ShanHeJinYuan is responsible for the interior design of this project. The original intention of the design is to integrate the essence of Beijing culture into modern urban life. As a result,a traditional Chinese courtyard has been inserted into the modern office building.
In 2014, Kokaistudios won an international architectural and interior design competition to build the Law Library of Tsinghua University in Beijing. Comprising a trio of functions – research, teaching, and office space – the building recalls both traditional printing blocks, as well as the Chinese capital’s signature hutongs and courtyards. Defined and connected by a series of voids, it is a striking addition to this most prestigious of campuses.
Conceived as one of a group of buildings, it was important that Kokaistudios’ new 20,000 sqm structure complemented the already defined thematic landscape of sunken areas, and both open and closed walkways. With this in mind, “duality” is central to the new library building.
The library located inside the main building of the school, formerly served the high school students without natural ventilation and lighting. The main entrance was compressed to 2 meters in height due to the floor settlement above, thus it barely drew any attention. The library still remained with its original 3 level layout from 90’s: Over-crammed bookcases, poor lighting and service, lack of reading area. Such dated conditions distanced many pre-cious books from public exposure.
Converting the 1200 m2 of three levels into 800 m2 of two levels. The existing 3 level space was reintroduced as 2 floors with higher, more experiential ceiling heights. The upper level serves as an open reading area for students to read, meet and interact, while the lower level functions as the main book archive space.

The Lakeside Plugin Tower is 480 square meters of live/work housing. It is developed in partnership with the Shenzhen Institute of Building Research, a leader in sustainable building design and urban development, as a prototype for the Xiong’an New Area, an important ‘model city’ currently being developed by the central government. Xiong’an is located 100km Southwest of Beijing, and is planned as a clean, affordable and congestion free alternative to the capital. To keep housing affordable in the new city, all housing will be state-owned and subsidized. It is conceived as a low carbon eco-city using 100 percent clean electricity with 10% of the area protected as permanent farmland.
Different from the traditional parent-child space such as playground, the parent-child restaurant is a place to meet the social needs of different groups of people. The designer carefully observes the difference in the psychological sense between parents and children, and takes good care of the ritual feelings required by adults and the entertainment facilities necessary for children in the same space. The parent-child restaurant brand YooYuumi, based on the new romance, blends in perfectly with eastern leisure pattern.
What is a fine architectural space? “A fine architectural space must be evaluated from two different aspects: visual perception and user experience. Expending more effort to create a good visual perception is the pursuit of most designers. As a result, good user experiences are often ignored.” Considered by LI Yiming, the chief designer of this project.
Health ( of three progressive levels including environmental health, physical wellness, and mental well-being) is one of the most important indexes to evaluate whether space has a good using experience.
Brii Biosciences' global R&D center project is located in Beijing. The brief called for a new visual identity for the company’s workspaces, drawn from both their own background in medical and health care, as well as the corporate social responsibility. To this end, the chief designer of this project, LI Yiming takes “Shang Shan Ruo Shui.” (From Lao Zi, Tao Te Ching, which means the highest level of good deeds are like water which favors all without caring about vanity.) as the core design concept to convey the core mission of Brii Biosciences: “We are committed to serving the needs of patients and improving the level of public health care in China.” Based on this design concept the new office is built into an equal, healthy, open and innovative workspace.
CUN寸DESIGN proposed the concept of corporate operation space. It is the first space design team in China to combine the concepts of art creativity, technology office and green office to complete the efficiency of corporate office. CUN remains a pioneer in the field of office design development. Every year, our latest thinking on the trends in the office space will be released.
As CUN寸DESIGN grows, we haven’t limited our design thinking to space design, but spread it to wider areas. In recent years, CUN寸DESIGN has focused on helping real-estate companies solve practical problems in a fundamental way so as to magnify the business value of real-estate projects.
In recent years, Parent-child restaurant has become a new type of dining in Beijing, with more restaurants serving the purpose of including children’s playgrounds, creating an environment for children to connect with their parents.
Golucci’s Parent-child restaurant , cooperated with the Beijing local brand Vitaland, focuses on parents who would like to have a quiet meal with their friends, but at the same time, take care of their children.
However, when your dates with friend become a “children’s date”, it seems like all the problems are easily solved.
The “treehouse” concept runs through the entire space of the restaurant. The small houses that are scattered around the space compose different experience spaces for children, forming a semi-circular structure with the dining area, while the spaces are connected to each other.
The project site is nested in a well preserved hutong area in Beijing Xicheng District. Both the main office and a small residential part had to be integrated within a limited footprint of 200 sqm with minimum interventions on the original layout and the client requested a flexible spatial organization that could accommodate different uses in the future.
Black steel boxes were inserted to connect the existing volumes, transforming the site from a traditional living space into a multifunctional modern office. The new volumes break down the existing barren exterior space into four gardens of intimate scales and diverse atmospheres. A route is delineated along the 19m long North-South axis with an orchestrated sequence of different spatial experiences and changing views to transit from the public office to the private living part of the building.
