A good space resembles a slowly opened book, with its colorful plot, intriguing story, and layers of changes. It generates an unknown environment which not connected to individual consciousness, cultural standard, and personal experience. It is delicate and subtle, yet users would be able to echo its sentiment.
Upon stepping into the space, the arch is built into a circle. Three quarters were outside, while the last quarter remains indoor. They not only echo respond to each other, but also embrace new visitors.
LUO studio designed a micro office for a graphics printing company in Beijing, which merely occupies 9.639 square meters.
Background
Based in Beijing, where “space” is relatively expensive, the chief designer Luo Yujie has been studying how to integrate multiple functions to maximize the utilization of space. For instance, he once designed a piece of large furniture that combined the functions of storage, sofa and computer desk in his small residence, and customized a variable and versatile work desk for architects.
Similar design concept was applied to this project too, which was accidental yet very necessary. Since digitalization has led to the sharp decrease in paper printing volume, the client, a service provider engaged in graphics printing industry, intended to separate a small office in its existing workspace, so as to establish a design department and transform its single printing service into a “printing + design” mode. The newly-designed office was expected to be fine and tiny, distinguished from the existing workspace, adaptive to future changes, and able to return to the original spatial state.

Using digital materials to break the physical boundary and using the digital images as the connection with different dimensions to achieve the elegant fusion of Screen Wall and Wall Transparent is the starting point of our design.

Located in the Sanlitun area, the Blufish Yingke is a coffee shop in the daytime and a bar in the evening. SODA Architects combines physical spatial morphologies with virtual dynamic images, allowing the atmosphere of the space to be changed over time.
During the daytime, the pure and elegant white setting provides a quiet place for the busy people to take a rest here. As the night falls, the swaying corals and the swimming fish become the protagonists.

‘Blue Mist’ is the design of a beauty salon in Beijing, that draws visual and formal influences from water and the seaside, resulting in a cool and calming space. The interior is characterised by gently curved walls that are finished with a white-blue gradation that recalls ocean mist and waves. Subtly connecting the space as a whole in a fluid way, they divide the salon into different zones, while also keeping it open to allow for a variety of services and activities to happen in a small area. The dynamic curved walls are also organised to create functional flow throughout, making it possible to gain access to each of the zones from more than one direction. Organically shaped furniture and spatial configurations have been realised and organised in a way that will enable the salon to host lectures and shows, providing experiences that have not previously been considered in this kind of space.
