Notariaat 2.0 – Continuous Landscape in Horebeke, Belgium by Atelier Vens Vanbelle

Thursday, October 15th, 2015

Article source: Atelier Vens Vanbelle

The original notary, which interacts with its surroundings in a very specific way, was put into use only five years ago. Thus it was a mental struggle to respond to the request for an extension. Well conceived design does not tolerate continuation or copy, so a radically different approach was needed. On a six-month period an abstract mirror box on a black base rose along the street. A transparent passageway between these two volumes replaces the former entrance of the building.

Auditorium of AZ Groeninge in Kortrijk, Belgium by Dehullu Architects

Thursday, October 1st, 2015

Article source: Dehullu Architects

The auditorium is part of a meeting centre that is situated on the site of the general hospital of AZ Groeninge in Kortrijk, Belgium. The hospital itself and all of the infrastructure is designed on a strict cartesian grid. Compared to the hospital the auditorium is only a tiny building, it is located in a corner of the site. It was the intension of the architects to design a building with its own identity, a building on which the cartesian grid was not imposed. It is a hide-out for the staff of the hospital, a place to be away from professional obligations, well integrated in the green surroundings. The building is distinct, has a gracious and optimistic elegance.

ANNDENNE’S CULTURAL CENTER in Belgium by LABEL ARCHITECTURE

Friday, August 28th, 2015

Article source: LABEL ARCHITECTURE

Andenne’s Cultural Center’s extension has not been designed as a single appendice filling a lack of space but was rather thought as an opportunity to deal with complex problematic which were restraining the fullfilment of the building. Indeed, its situation in a disparate urban fabric, between supermarket and parking area, didn’t give approriate visibility and accessibility to the Center. At the same time, this location reveals a great potential on the landscape scale. On the banks of the river, the site is perceivable from the main road between Liège and Namur.

Puinhuis in Ghent, Belgium by FELT with 360 architecten

Friday, August 21st, 2015

Article source: FELT

At the outskirts of the quaint Belgian city of Ghent we encounter an idiosyncratic renovation of a classic Flemish townhouse. The original building was wrapped within a new envelope, delineating the new volume. Carrying three facades, the building is situated on the end of a row of houses. This unique position provides the dwelling three different opportunities of sunlight, a 270° panoramic view and its very own secret garden.
