Little Willy is the name of a multifunctional complex combining a bed and breakfast, a penthouse, a shop and a restaurant.  Special about this project is the dialogue between the old and new, located on a small corner plot.  However Little Willy is more than just a striking corner building: it is part of the urban renewal that is going on for some years in the Brussels Dansaert district.

The workhouse is part of a complex situated alongside the canal which has a very original and distinct character thanks to its special typology and materialisation. Unlike traditional industrial ‘boxes’, the workhouse’s programmatic mix is rather peculiar: it includes a garage, workshops, offices and a caretaker’s residence.

Renovation & extension of a holiday house in Villers-en- Fagne, Belgium by Dehullu Architecten

Sunday, June 7th, 2015

Article source: Dehullu Architecten

The quality of the existing dwelling consists not only of the building itself, but also of the surroundings and orientation.  On renovating the existing building the architects worked with local materials to stay as close as possible to the original design.  Logically the main living room was relocated in an extension oriented on the beautiful surroundings of the small and rural town of Villers-en-Fagne.  This extension was conceived  in a delicate and quite sober structure.  The living area is suspended between the two slabs of roof and floor.  The connection with the terrace and the green and hilly  surroundings is optimized for a relaxing and enjoyable stay.
