Built in 1680 by a mythical French Marshal as part of a large fortification project of Ypres, the “Kazematten” are known for their rich history. Following the independence of Belgium the fortification complex was mostly demolished to allow de city to expand.The “Kazematten” were spared this fate due to lack of funds. Dethier Architectures was chosen to design new infrastructures for the Centre. The project began in March 2002 and was completed in February 2004. The new building was erected in the Sart-Tilman science park in Liège.
