Tubakuba mountain hut in Bergen, Norway by OPA FORM architects

Hovering above the city, hidden behind trees in the forest of Bergen’s most famous mountain; through a tuba-tunnel, you can enter a wooden bubble. One night, just for you and your kids.
The project is the result of a design-build workshop at Bergen School of Architecture lead by Espen Folgerø at OPA FORM architects.

Grønneviksøren Student Apartments in Bergen, Norway by 3RW Arkitekter

The student houses at Grønneviksøren are an attempt to answer a big challenge in growing cities today. How do we create sustainable architecture for a great number of people – in this case the students – who need homes for a low budget in the city?

Grønneviksøren, as a transformation area, is located just outside of Bergen city center, by a 20 minute walk. It consists of 16 different building groups with varying height up to 8 floors.

Overlooking breathtaking fjords and a stretch of Norway’s west coast archipelago, Villa Storingavika is a robust yet refined vessel from which to appreciate the delicate coastline and sometimes rugged climate. It is a pale timber volume enrobed in a crisp, ‘pleated’ dark timber exterior.

Background
Bergen International Festival is a music and cultural festival to be held in Bergen in late May and early June each year. The festival is the largest of its kind and contains a wide range of events in music, theater, dance and visual arts at the national and international level. Concerts are held in the Grieg Hall and Haakon’s Hall, in the four composer homes on Siljustøl, Trolhaugen, Lysøen and Valestrandsfossen as well as in a number of city churches, streets and squares. The first festival was held in 1953.

Sotra Arena in Bergen, Norway by LONGVA ARKITEKTER

The new sports hall is located next to an existing sports field on the outskirts of Straume, a small town near Bergen.

The brief was to create two sports halls that could accommodate a variety of events and scenarios. The main hall has seating for 3000 spectators and can be used for international handball and basketball tournaments. The building also contains weight training facilities, communal rooms and offices for the local sports clubs.

Link Arkitektur AS has a long tradition in designing school projects. The project Nordahl Grieg high school with its 14’000m2 is the result of a 1.prize in an EEA design competition in 2006. The school was completed in 2010. The main aim of Link Arkitektur AS is to design projects which maximize the quality of the situation and the community. To achieve this we amongst other things focus highly on environmental issues and universal access and use.

An innovative approach to hospital design in Bergen, Norway by C. F. Møller Architects

A whole new kind of hospital – that is how the jury described the winning proposal by C. F. Møller Architects for a new 10,000 m2 ward building for Haraldsplass Hospital in Bergen, Norway. Gone are the traditional hospital corridors, to be replaced by open common areas and efficient logistics.

Haraldsplass Hospital was built in 1986 and has approximately 184 beds. The new building will cover 10,000 m2 and give the hospital a further 108 beds on three storeys. There will also be new underground parking facilities for approximately 400 cars.
