For many years UNStudio has been investigating the potential of the temporary installation as an experimental testing ground for manifold architectural concerns and it is these investigations that form the basis of the exhibition ‘Motion Matters’. The exhibition presents ten of UNStudio’s milestone projects, in addition to conveying their perspective on 25 years of architectural production, their current approach to architectural practice and the wider discourse that determines design challenges today.
Designed by LOVE architecture and urbanism, the main goal of their winning proposal for the 50Hertz Headquarters in Berlin was to develop an innovative, transparent, open headquarters for the company that above all flows from inside to outside. The focus became to create flexible, versatile, and unique working environments, which are traversed by spacious outdoor spaces in the form of terraces, balconies and atriums. More images and architects’ description after the break.
The untypical facade of coloured plain tiles make this house a peculiar new member of the urban fabric. Simultaneously the hasty passerby will not neccessarily take notice of the greenish structure blending with plants and trees deep in the gap between neighbouring buildings.
The New Library is a proposal for the Berlin Central Library. Strategically sited within the city adjacent to the new Tempelhoff Park this landmark is established to the West access. This new library should be viewed as a point of departure and is directly associated to the city’s commitment to future urban development within this area of the city.

Barcode Architects & Habiter Autrement presented last week their competition entry for the new multifunctional headquarter of EDEL AG in Berlin. The 7-storey building is located on the Spandaur Schiffahrts Kanal and will be in the future together with the opposite museum of modern art \”Hamburger Bahnhof\” and the \”Flick Art collection” an important link in the development of the Berlin KunstCampus. The project contains a strong mix of program with public functions as an art gallery, café, bookshop and auditorium, versus private functions as the 3000m2 offices for Edel AG and the exclusive penthouses.
An old cabaret theatre from the roaring ’20s has been uncovered in the heart of Berlin.
The semi-derelict music hall theatre, built in 1905 on Gartenstraße in Berlin Mitte, has been buried in 30 tonnes of rubble since 1934 when it closed, perhaps as part of a crackdown on the cabaret scene by the Nazi regime.

The Design Research Exchange (DRX) is a non-profit residency program for researchers hosted by HENN. The DRX, initiated by Moritz Fleischmann (HENN Research Director) and Martin Henn (HENN Design Director), provides an open platform to unite experts from various fields. By exploring architectural topics of shared interest, the DRX promotes a multi-disciplinary discussion between academics and professionals.
