Friday, May 24th, 2013

Article source: UNStudio

For many years UNStudio has been investigating  the potential of the temporary installation as an experimental testing ground for manifold architectural concerns and  it is these investigations that form the basis of the exhibition ‘Motion Matters’. The exhibition presents ten of UNStudio’s milestone projects, in addition to conveying their perspective on 25 years of architectural production, their current approach to architectural practice and the wider discourse that determines design challenges today.

New Central Library in Berlin, Germany by Envés Arquitectos

Saturday, May 11th, 2013

Article source: Envés Arquitectos

Zentral- und Landesbibliothek. General intentions: The proposal we submitted to the Competition is based in three dualities:

Open / closed:  A library has become one of the few public places that still remaining affordable for citizens, where they are able to:

  1. Enjoy recreational activities (playing, eating, resting, reading…) and professional ones
  2. Shelter from uncomfortable weather conditions

We conceive a library as an open, public, free and comfortable meeting place; summing up, an urban lobby.

Schuppen in Berlin, Germany by brandt + simon architekten

The untypical facade of coloured plain tiles make this house a peculiar new member of the urban fabric. Simultaneously the hasty passerby will not neccessarily take notice of the greenish structure blending with plants and trees deep in the gap between neighbouring buildings.

Abandoned 1920s cabaret theatre discovered in Berlin, Germany by LAVA visualisations

Saturday, November 24th, 2012

Article source: Moritz Gruppe/LAVA

An old cabaret theatre from the roaring ’20s has been uncovered in the heart of Berlin.

The semi-derelict music hall theatre, built in 1905 on Gartenstraße in Berlin Mitte, has been buried in 30 tonnes of rubble since 1934 when it closed, perhaps as part of a  crackdown on the cabaret scene by the Nazi regime.
