Albes Cemetery Extension in Brixen, Italy by Stefano Peluso Architecture

Wednesday, July 10th, 2019

Article source: Stefano Peluso Architecture

The geometry takes up the planimetric shape of the existing cemetery, reinterpreting the architectural elements that characterize the area in a contemporary key. The perimeter wall is the generating system of the composition. The intent is to create a clear contrast that allows to highlight the emblematic historical cemetery and to create a synergy with it, so as to enhance the ancient \”Kirchhof\”. From the old cemetery the visitor enters the courtyard and an arcaded area where cinerary urns and the ossuary are located. To emphasize the sacredness of this space, a large skylight was inserted which acts as a pivot between the space of the columbaria and the retaining wall to the north. The zenithal light that comes from the large truncated pyramid on the surfaces of concrete walls create a changing and ephemeral geography of shadows. The boundary wall is extruded, and the various functions are organized in its thickness. The projections above the retaining wall create a portico that, in full local tradition, embraces the courtyard for interment, offering to visitors a sheltered place. The contrast between the concrete and the bronze of the panels and lamps represents the only stylistic note in an austere and deliberately abstract context.

Villa P in Brixen, Italy by Christian Schwienbacher

Monday, January 14th, 2019

Article source: Christian Schwienbacher

The design of this house is the result of the relationship between the individual functions: on the south side of the building, the living room and the kitchen are on the same level with direct access to the terrace. Behind the kitchen there is the “Stube room”, behind the living room the library. Upstairs there are bedrooms and baths. In the basement there are cellars, the garage and technical rooms. Formally, the building is a soft butterfly-like shape with rounded corners, where each floor is not exactly on top of each other.

Aquilialberg Project of the Brixen Public Library of Bressanone

Sunday, January 30th, 2011

The Aquilialberg project of the Public Library of Bressanone has the aim to become a new gathering location for the population. Following this line, the project is designed to assure wide spaces for socialization, both interior and exterior, to accommodate public manifestations and cultural encounters. It is a place to spread knowledge, in which citizen could feel themselves at ease and spend spare time constructively. A deep design study is conducted for the new volume; the starting point was the relation with the existing neighbours volumes and their geometries. An especially attention is given to the orientation of the roofs’ slopes of the closest buildings, with the purpose to match, in the most elegant way, the new project with the context of the city. The composition language, developed in the design of the new volume, came from the push of the neighbour roofs’ slopes through the competition site. A void is generated and it worked as a hinge matching the existing volumes with the new Library building. The Hinge-Volume material is glass, chosen to respect the relation between historical past of the existing and the new presence.
