Renovation of Rahova Commodities Exchange in Bucharest, Romania by Re-Act Now Studio

Wednesday, March 20th, 2013

Article source: Re-Act Now Studio

What could we do in the context of revitalizing architecture to keep a more vivid picture of an old building with (even partial) special features? It is a question to which we can respond in two ways. The valuable part – the special one – will be restored and the unworthy one we rebuild, complete, emphasize – in a first variant – absolutely in the same stylistic story as theold valuable one, or we dress it – in a second variant – in a completely new concept in major contrast with the existing situation.

Dante Alighieri High School Expansion in Bucharest, Romania by LTFB Studio

Friday, January 25th, 2013

Article source: LTFB Studio

This intervention must be related to the context: the communist architectural legacy from before 1989 in Romanian cities, the gray suburbs and neighborhoods with standardized blocks , the specific urban landscape of Europe’s former socialist bloc. Due to excessive standardization, many blocks of flats in Bucharest are identical with some of the apartment buildings in places located hundreds of miles away, indifferent to the socio-cultural specificity.

School of Music and Arts in Bucharest, Romania by LTFB Studio

Friday, January 25th, 2013

Article source: LTFB Studio

A FEW WORDS ABOUT THE SCHOOL

The idea of a school of music and arts in Bucharest came from the need to gather all the teachers and gifted children from the district and from other areas in a single dedicated place in order to study and communicate. Until now, children have studied in improvised places, in old schools that haven’t been built in accordance with the technical needs of these disciplines. The school is not a classical art one, but an institution with extra-curricular activities like music, theatre, dance, drawing, painting, graphics, sculpture, new media and performance of any kind.

CN House in Bucharest, Romania by Plus Line Design

Tuesday, March 27th, 2012

Article source: Plus Line Design

This house is built on a 450 square meters lot, located on a former park in Bucharest.  In order to preserve the rich vegetation of the park, as well as the general ambiance of the area, the architect and the beneficiary agreed to keep the highest possible number of the existing trees.  As a result, three out of the four trees survived.  They also determined the placing of the building, becoming determining factors, just like the general urban provisions.
