With the partial remake of the „ÉL” Budapest University of Technology and Economics’ laboratory building, a new, functionally complex Sports Center was created.
The „ÉL” building was built in the immediate vicinity of the „Z” tower building by the Danube riverbank (also designed by Elemér Nagy) in the mid 70’s. This remake was realized on an approx. 2800 m2’s (ground+2 floors) of area, built up of three crane bays with spans of 15 meters, and the surrounding reinforced concrete frame structure. The sporting facilities were created on the 2/3 of the office and laboratory tracts of the extant building’s first and second floor. This impoundment was entirely renovated according to the new function, whilst the remaining area continues to operate with its laboratory and educational functions.
A transparent tower and surrounding public square, Szervita Square moves away from closed forms and perimeter blocks to create a building and urban landscape that is porous, accessible and welcoming. A structure that extends Budapest’s rich architectural heritage, is inherently ‘in context’, yet also marks a radical new approach.
The Great Rock was created during the major reconstruction of the Zoo between 1909 and 1912, based on the specialist instructions of the Zoo Construction Committee in the capital. The zoological tasks were supervised by the director of the zoo at the time, Dr Adolf Lendl, and the construction technology aspects by Dr Kornél Neuschloss. The primary purpose of the artificial rock was to help the Zoo, that already operated on a overly tight area, appear larger and provide greater space. Thus instead of the completely flat area, with the vertical elevation, a divided and at the same time larger surface would be created with the latest and most spectacular animal runs of the time.
We have already made designs for SZÁMALK before, such as the reconstruction of their 40-year-old headquarter. Among those plans, the 242 people capacity lecture hall of the center building at Etele Street was realized.
The new Capsula Multi-brand Store is a stunning and elegant space located on Andrassy Avenue, an iconic boulevard in Budapest dating back to 1872, lined with spectacular neo-renaissance mansions and townhouses featuring fine-facades and interiors. In 2002 it was recognized as a World Heritage site. It is also one of Budapest’s main shopping streets, with high fashion stores, trendy restaurants and richly decorated cafés.
This historic building functioned as a military school in the past was built in 1897. the original house was almost 100m long then an event hall was attached to it in 1926. In the following decades a new wing for further functions was joined. in this more recent alteration, the vision of practice Vikár & Lukács Architects Studio was to demolish the attached parts and rethink the building while retaining its original form. According to these plans it was completed with a glass facade parallel with the old building, making the new floor plan to meet the requirements of modern times.
Vikár & Lukács architects studio won the commission for this project on a competition for a new iconic headquarter of the hungarian autoklub. The main gesture of the building is a ribbon that wraps around the office spaces on seven floors, while articulating a letter ‘a’. As the site is located near the danube bridge, local politicians appreciated to have a building that works as a point of orientation for drivers that arrive to district ujpest.

Along with Moszkva square, Móricz Zsigmond circus is a very busy public transportation junction, located in south Buda. With a round art relic in its middle – the Gomba (meaning mushroom because of its form) is a popular public space for people to meet, with several trams and buses intersecting, along with the Budapest Metro – subway line 4, presently under construction. The concept by Hetedik Műterem Ltd. was to treat the art relic of József Schall (from 1942) with proper respect but determined courage. At the same time, they redefined the currently closed space structure, to put forward and intensify the presence of the urban public space.
In our concept we created a place that is rooted in the original structure of the square but still up-to date. We also aimed to strengthen the connections of the square to its surroundings. Our main ambitions were to balance the historical and modern elements and connect the existing and new elements of the square in harmony.
The Faculty of Architecture of the Technical University of Budapest is situated in the historical central building of the campus. A reconstruction process started few years ago to gather all the parts of the faculty onto the same floor. The primary rooms were freed and the faculty started using it during this process. The new hall is tending to fulfill various functions among others it provides space for lectures, exhibitions, conferences, workshops.
