In a joint venture, TMG Partners, one of the San Francisco Bay Area’s largest mixed-use property developers, and Northwood Investors LLC, a leading privately-held global real estate investment firm, announced today the selection of Foster + Partners and Heller Manus Architects as architects for the approximately two million square foot mixed-use development in San Francisco.
This project houses a growing graphic/product design office within an existing brick building located in the Jackson square historic district. The design requires the removal of all the existing interior structure while leaving the existing perimeter brick structure and original front facade intact.

This private residential compound sits on 3 large lots at the intersection of Pacifc Ave. and Navy St. which is the first street into Venice from Santa Monica, as such this project serves as a gateway to Venice. Because the intersection is very noisy the concept was to use large tilt up concrete slabs to create an acoustical and visual wall to reinforce the edge condition between the street and the residence.
The Hendee-Borg House is a symmetrical saw-tooth roof house for two artists—a sculptor and a media artist—that includes a pair of large artist studios and an attenuated gallery space, in addition to a sequence of domestic spaces. The studio spaces are planometrically-mirrored about an east-west axis in order to facilitate distinct, natural lighting conditions for each studio under a series of eight skylights.
Bringing to life what is sure to become one of San Diego’s most iconic buildings, McCarthy Building Companies, Inc.has completed construction for the new J. Craig Venter Institute(JCVI), La Jolla, located on a 1.75-acre scenic site at 4120 Torrey Pines Road on the University of California, San Diego, (UCSD) campus.
This project began with an e-mail and a meeting in fall of 2008 for a house in Yucca Valley, which is located near Palm Springs, east of Los Angeles in the high desert near the Joshua Tree National Park.

Needing an innovative and cool space for the rapidly growing Sunnyvale team, Comcast partnered with Design Blitz to create a cutting-edge, collaborative new office.
This pavilion proposal was created as a tourist attraction for the California Department of Food and Agriculture. Its design is intended to sustainably celebrate the great diversity, and the future of food production in the state of California.
The shape of the large concrete structure was based on a contour map of a California hill. Various food crops are planted in raised troughs that follow the contours of the perimeter of the hill. These plants are continually changed out in order to display the wide variety of crops actually grown on farms in California.
The Central Los Angeles Area High School #9 for the Visual and Performing Arts of the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) is part of phase II of LAUSD’s rigorous state bond funded plan to have 155 new schools built in its district by 2012. It is located on a 9.8 acre site on Grand Avenue in downtown Los Angeles. The school will be a comprehensive High School and in addition will offer courses in the Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Music and Dance.
