Colkitt&Co’s model is revolutionizing PUMA’s global outlet program with mobile fixture kits that allow for more flexible and sustainable retail design. Between interchangeable stock parts made of 100 percent recycled materials, to a 35 percent more energy efficient design, the PUMA factory outlet center (FOC) model is setting a precedent for LEED Platinum retail design.
The owner wished to create a tranquil and sheltered environment from which to enjoy a rich natural landscape and spectacular river views. The single interior space has a complex program, it is a combination of office, art studio, flexible living space and gallery in which to show a rotating display of pieces from the owner’s extensive sculpture and painting collection.
The owners wanted to take full advantage of a spectacular site on the banks of theAmericanRiver. Heavily wooded and facing a state park across the river, the site provides a natural setting, rich in wildlife that would allow for bird watching year round. The house is located to maintain as many mature trees as possible, which provide sun-screening and further enhance the concept of living in nature.
The Cresta is a 5,300 sq foot single-family residence designed and constructed entirely out of cast in place concrete on a 5,000 sqft lot in the Lower Hermosa region of La Jolla, CA .The house’s three stories, one below and two above grade, are accented by floor to ceiling glass and large open expanses to the outdoors.
Skype’s primary goal was to create a world-class o”ce that would di!erentiate them from their Bay Area competitors in the recruitment of talent. Their new space not only had to be a design statement that reflected their modern but fun personality, but it also had to meet very specific acoustic requirements to support the company’s extensive use of AV. Skype hired Design Blitz architects to design their new North American headquarters on an aggressive budget and schedule. Despite being one of several new o”ces that year for Skype, the completed project ultimately became the standard for the international communications company and also achieved LEED Silver certification.
Smith|Allen participated in the Project 387 Residency, located in Mendocino Country from August 4-18, 2013. In the heart of a 150-acre redwood forest, Smith|Allen has created a site responsive, 3D printed architectural installation (the largest of it’s kind): Echoviren. The project merges architecture, art and technology to explore the dialectic between man, machine and nature. The Project 387 open house and reception was Saturday, August 17.

The site is adjacent to the heart of the thriving downtown area of the city of Davis. The solution is novel for this type of use: a contextual piece of urban infill, creating a new public park and providing a consistent continuation of the existing density and pedestrian scale. It is the exact opposite of typical concepts for this building type, which would normally place the buildings well back from the street and surround them with parking. The site plan in this case was carefully laid out in relation to the plan of the existing city: the buildings continue the line the street wall and then curve back to create a much needed public green-space, whilst the parking requirement is concealed behind.
The One Workplace Headquarters project was a unique opportunity for both One Workplace and for Design Blitz. One Workplace is the largest furniture dealer in Northern California and the single source for Steelcase furniture in the San Francisco Bay Area. The ambitious directive was to re-define the architectural standard not only of the company, but also of the showroom experience itself and create a bleeding edge, world-class workplace that serves both employees and customers alike. One Workplace had already shifted the industry paradigm of sales and showrooms away from a transactional experience to one of collaboration and partnership.
What used to be a storage closet, is currently being transformed by architect and design firm Colkitt&Co, to become a 1,830 square foot food and beverage cafe for students, staff and campus visitors to enjoy. Construction began earlier this summer, and Dlush UCSD is expected to open just in time for the first week of fall semester classes.
