VIVID Architects prepared the initial concept design for this home, a contemporary reboot of the more classical architectural styles. SAOTA – Stefan Antoni Olmesdahl Truen Architects and ANTONI ASSOCIATES were then appointed to refine & develop the design and oversee the project to completion. The facade is Georgian inspired but the modern aspect of the look is driven by a dynamic of recessed and projecting panels and cubes that create courtyards and terraces that articulate and add interest to what is a highly organised shell. The interiors, by ANTONI ASSOCIATES, are equally sculpted.
The clients who lived in an existing house on the property needed to rebuild the house in order to suit the demands of their family. The site on Glen Avenue in Higgovale faces in a Northerly direction, with its boundaries on the South East. Although the wind conditions are tough, the site’s moderate slope allows the design to engage with different levels of the garden adjacent to the areas of the three level lounge.
A young family re-locating to the Western Cape was looking to change from city living to a more relaxed country lifestyle in which to bring up their young family and settled for the exclusive Pearl Valley Golf Estate located near Pearl, just 30 minutes away from Cape Town. The owners approached ANTONI ASSOCIATES to create an interior that was modern but with an emphasis on ‘barefoot luxury’ and the use of natural materials.

The brief called for a dynamic response to capitalise on the site, by creating an environment where the young family could enjoy an outdoor lifestyle.
The design was driven by the need to create a family home, which accommodated the kitchen, living and dining room in one space. The secondary living area was to be an entertainment space. The pool terrace allows for covered and uncovered areas to relax around the pool. The entertainment lounge accommodates a generous bar, and is close to the outdoor braai area. A dramatic gazebo structure is perched at the edge of the pool deck.

ANTONI ASSOCIATES were appointed by Sygnia, a financial services company to re-locate their offices to the top two floor levels of The Foundry in Green Point. The brief to Mark Rielly and Michele Rhoda of ANTONI ASSOCIATES was to create an open plan office environment, inspired by industrial New York loft-style gallery spaces.
The clients, a British couple living in Cape Town, requested a six-bedroom, seven-level home that makes the most of the site, the views and the mountain. The lower levels of the existing structure were totally remodelled while the upper level was demolished to allow for two new levels.
“Inspiration was drawn from the mountain and dark colours were used on the facade, allowing the building to visually recede into the mountain instead of being an obtrusive construction,” says Greg Truen, Project Partner. The site enjoys spectacular views, both of the sea and Lions Head and these views and the impact of the sun were key informants contributing to the overall design.

The Junior School building corresponds to the Phase 1 of the Blouberg International School in Cape Town. The site is located into a residential area towards the north side of the city centre, where the climate transits from the lush and rainy part of the city towards the drier Atlantic ocean’s west coast.

The POD boutique Hotel is sited at the Cape Town end of the Camps Bay “strip” and is intended to serve those looking for beachfront luxury packaged in a discreet and stylish manner.
The 15 Room building has been cleverly placed on the site to allow each of the rooms a vista of Camps Bay Beach, Table Mountain, Lions Head or the 12 Apostles. In some of the larger rooms, views of a combination of 2 or more of these Cape Town landmarks are on offer.

Conceived as the home for a young/trendy/elegant couple, this house is the perfect reflection of the client’s brief. The main areas of the house are raised and located on the first floor in order to take advantage of the beautiful views towards the ocean, leaving the complementary areas on the ground floor, spinning around a central courtyard that not only provides light and ventilation but also a beautiful view from every room on that level.
The site which is located on the southern slope of Lion’s head, within the trendy suburb, Tamboerskloof, commands spectacular views over Cape Town and the harbor. From the street one gets a hint of the building, but your first real interaction is with the timber box, which houses the guest suite, looming over as you draw near the premises. The gate leads one to a lush courtyard where granite stepping stones set in an indigenous garden guide you to the front door.
