Tuesday, December 4th, 2012

Article source: MHM architects

The boathouse was built as a solitary building at the Seebodner lakeside of the Millstätter lake in Carinthia. The location of the construction is characterized by the intersection line between water and soil, directly at the foot a precipitous slope in which also the remaining buildings of the property complex are situated. Due to their elevated position, those houses have an extensive view at the south and the west façade of the boathouse.

The residential house at the Millstätter See is a brick basement turn-of-the-century wooden house. Its construction date is estimated to be between 1900 and 1910.The construction assignment was to refurbish the perennially occupied house and to convert it into a modern summer house. The greatest emphasis was placed on keeping the original external appearance while adapting the internal space to make it contemporary and equipping it with the newest technology.

Article source: Querkraft

Place

The museum liaunig projects out on two sides over steep-sided ground, high up in the landscape.A cut through the hill marks a precise intervention in nature.

Sign

Planted into the site the new museum emerges more like a work of landart. only a small part of the outstretched museum building is visible. Cut through the hill, the main body of the museum slices athrough a densely-wooded, steep-sided embankment, providing an unparalleled view over the river drau seventy metres below.

The building cantilevers an impressive thirty metres out, over a steep bank towards the approach road – clearly visible to approaching visitors.
