Hotel Nudibranch in Zhejiang, China by SpActrum

Sunday, November 14th, 2021

Article source: SpActrum

The Hotel Nudibranch is a key part of the Nanji international tourism island development in Zhejiang, in the East China Sea. The site is called Dashaao, which means ‘grand sandy bay’. The design is inspired by sea creatures, which the island is famous for, such as nudibranch and other shellfish. This “mollusk” lifts itself by its soft legs and stretches its tentacles to explore different directions. The public part of the hotel resembles a floating space above the sand. The sandy ground blends into the hotel to become an outdoor playground in the shadow cast by the building above. The legs connect people from the ground to restaurants and bars, and the SPA and swimming pool to the public space above. There is a private garden above the public floor, dedicated to residents of the hotel. The hotel rooms are located in two shell-like buildings that provide most of the rooms with beautiful sea views. The building blends the boundaries between the building and the landscape by its organic form and flexible connectivity; it sits on the site like a nudibranch crouching on the peaceful bay. A lot of Eco-friendly technologies have been installed to minimize the environment impact on the site.

Article source: B.L.U.E. Architecture Studio

As a typical picturesque Chinese Jiangnan town, the village of Jijiadun locates about 1.5-hour drive from the central city of Shanghai. With the rapid development of urbanization in China, the problem of rural hollowing-out is becoming increasingly serious. In order to revitalize the village, the government of the local rural township invited a team of professionals to re-develop and renovate the village. By introducing the cultural and creative industries into the village while respecting its rural scene and culture, Jijiadun village is attracting “new villagers” from the cities and thus forming a new dynamic rural living community.

Wednesday, August 4th, 2021

Article source: Lacime Architects

Wuhan Hanyang Iron Works was founded by Zhang Zhidong in 1890, being the first and largest iron and steel gathering place in China’s modern history. After the founding of People’s Republic of China, Hanyang Iron Works was rebuilt on the site of the original Hanyang Gunpowder Factory. Wuhan Hanyang Iron Works moved to another place in 2007. Today, the original Hanyang Iron Works site has ceased production activities, but in the factory area, the workshop buildings built in the 1950s and the remaining machines are in good condition. Different times have left indelible marks on the land of this factory area. Therefore, the protection and reuse of industrial sites in the factory area is an important practical carrier to show the national industry development and modern industrial culture elements of Wuhan city.

Faculty of Business and Economics at Hong Kong University in China by Rocco Design Architects Associates

Tuesday, July 20th, 2021

Article source: Rocco Design Architects Associates

Embracing the university’s ethos, the design creates spatial and programmatic loops that encourage the holistic cultivation of mind, spirit, and body. The design incorporates a curving set of buildings onto a triangular plot tucked between two winding roadways that descend a steep hillside in Kennedy Town on the western tip of Hong Kong Island. The building meets the intersections of the roads with a long and low volume that carves out a pedestrian plaza and climbs the hill, culminating in a tower that establishes a defining presence in the area.
