Article source: LWK + PARTNERS

As a lifestyle gallery, Chongqing Jiangshan Yun Chu – Legend Gallery in China is a trial for and response to localised architecture by LWK + PARTNERS. It explores the spatial interaction between nature and urban space on a site close to Chongqing’s Jialing River bank, where the waterscape forms a rare natural setting for the urban area.

Riverbends by the cliff is a symbolic setting in Chongqing. Sitting on a triangular site at the highest point of the cliff, the gallery allows visitors a full view of the riverbend and a bird’s eye view of the future Yue Lai core transit-oriented development (TOD) district.

The relationship of the city Yunyang, a new immigrant city relocated for the construction of the Three Gorges, and the river is under long-term discussion. In 2015, the Yunyang Municipal Government carried out a comprehensive improvement project of the 35km reservoir bank alongside the Yangtze River and the Pengxi River, dredging the waterfront space and building landscape parks, squares and trails, to form a coherent riverside pedestrian system. Tanghua Architect & Associates is assigned to design three riverside service buildings on the junction of the two rivers: the Tiangongbao, the fishery banquet hall and the Sifangjing, which are ought to serve as important public nodes connecting the Sifangjing Wharf Park, the Shuangjiang Bridge Park and the Muyubao Park, with Yunyang Yunyang Civil Cutural Center. Among these buildings, the Sifangjing service building is the first completed project.

Rain House —— The Carpenter’s House in Chongqing, China by Describing Architecture Studio

Wednesday, June 19th, 2019

Article source: Describing Architecture Studio

The rolling hills in the east of Chongqing have always been a remarkable landscape, but presented serious traffic problems then. The newly constructed roads in the past 20 years successfully negotiated their way through this area and met its residents’ traveling needs.

Road-upgrade was not the only change. What the residents are enjoying now are increasing income, subsidies, tap water, natural gas, and Internet, despite the fact that broadcasting programs introducing welfare policies as well as offering get-rich tips still serve as a vivid reminder of hardships 30 years ago.
