To clarify the two axes: The streets are actually crowded by parked cars. This needs to be removed to increase the attractiveness of the area for pedestrians and cyclists. Moreover, the space occupied by cars will be transformed into green areas and pedestrian paths. Space for cars will be limited to one lane, with a separate lane for cycles.

The visitors centre is situated in the pristine forest of Hareskoven in the vicinity of Copenhagen. It is a portal to the almost 1 million visitors that uses the forest annually. It hosts a 1000 square meter large visitor centre with café, exhibition space, rental, learning and research facilities and a caretaker’s residence.
The building is shaped like a star resembling the pathways in the forest that surrounds it. The pathways used to be a part of the old kings hunting grounds. They could provide a panoramic overview over the position of the prey in the forest. Now they serve as a historical memory and are a beautiful and unique feature of Hareskoven.

This is a classical challenging task. How to establish innovative architecture in an age-old quarter of the city and still respect the old environment? The collaboration between the Danish architecture fi rm POLYFORM architects and the Dutch architecture fi rm KARRES EN BRANDS Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning led to the idea of build underground instead of build on surface. In this way it is possible to build new spaces for offices and staff for the public cleaning facilities – even in the heart of the dense medieval city.

Science tower and urban park in the heart of Copenhagen – the winning proposal for the extension of the Panum complex
C. F. Møller Architects, together with SLA and Rambøll, have been selected by a unanimous jury as the winners of a large and prestigious competition to design an extension to the University of Copenhagen’s Panum complex on Blegdamsvej in the heart of Copenhagen.
The extension of the Panum complex has been designed with the aim of creating the best possible environment for modern research and teaching. A parallel objective has been to create a building which will stand out as an identity-creating, sculptural linchpin for the entire Panum complex and the university’s Nørre Campus (i.e. the North Campus) as a whole. The new complex is also intended to act as the generator of a positive urban development in its immediate neighbourhood and in relation to the entire city.
When the CABINN Metro hotel opens in early 2010 it will be the largest hotel in Denmark and a new landmark for Copenhagen. The hotel is located in the north-west corner of Copenhagen’s fast-growing city quarter, Orestad.
Elmegade district is probably one of the most densely populated areas of inner Nørrebro, CPH. Especially the triangular block Birkegade / Egegade / Elmegade has a very high density, which is reflected in very narrow courtyards.
In the post-oil era, the cost of transportation will rise dramatically. The solution lies in the densification of the city as well as in finding alternative ways of commuting. The long term question remains, how much density Copenhagen can afford and at what price. A first step into the right direction has been done by expanding the existing, extensive network of bike lanes into the suburbs. Additionally, there is also a network of 13 highway bike routes for bicycle commuters in planning. They will connect the suburbs with the city centre. The new Bicycle Sharing System must be integrated into this concept to create synergies with other fields, e.g. public and individual transportation. It must become an integral part of a comprehensive transport and energy policy.
