The project is the administration building of a company that distributes and manufactures concrete mixes, and whose leadership is pushing towards on alternative technologies, energy sources and building practices. The industrial character of the land has a raw and authentic atmosphere thanks to the never-sleeping concrete mixer and the 40-metre-tall agriculture silo opposite. The content of the building is reflected in the disorganized expression of the architectural object, which is cast entirely in-situ. The concrete form takes inspiration from diagrammatic experimentation and a close relationship with the surrounding environment, as well as responding to the movement of the sun and the motion of the cars around it. Grown trees have been preserved and lay encircled by the structure. Concrete textures of various structures create the floor, ceilings and walls – the key components of the building itself – and the roof is cast from thermally insulating concrete. The walls are an astonishing 1-m-thick and required no further finishing or cladding. The installation of building elements is visible, carried on the concrete structure, with the windows forming the eyes of the house. Parking is on the roof of the building alongside a photovoltaic power plant which incorporates electric car chargers. The building hides elements that have been developed by the company itself, such as a 10-m tilt gate that serves as roofing, a brick-laying robot, railings, rails, etc.
Inspired by traditional fisherman´s cabins, we designed a small cabin on a bank of a pond, which is surrounded by a picturesque scenery. Its size is limited by the legislation. The maximum built-up area 50 m2 and the maximum height of 5m require a special ground-plan solution for a family holiday house. The object consists of four small masses, three of which are connected and one separated, standing nearby. The central space is accessed by a minimal entrance through the kitchen, which also has a built in component of a rather small attic space intended to be a sleeping space for children. The kitchen offers a beautiful view of the water surface, as well as the bedroom, while the living space also opens up in the other direction, to the sunlit scenery of mature oaks. The individual separated object serves as a storage space with a covered porch suitable for drying fisherman´s nets or just silent contemplation surrounded by natural beauty.
The first house designed and built by our architect studio is located on a small piece of land between Kopřivnice and Štramberk. It was built in a former recreation area where a large, old Chestnut tree was growing in an overrun field. This beautiful tree was a focal point for this property and the house became known as Chestnut House. The small area, orientation of the land and location of the chestnut tree clearly determined the overall atmosphere.
The dark brown house surrounded by the lush green landscape mirrors a chestnut breaking out of its thorny green shell. It is built of raw, untreated wood with burnt lining to compliment the solid chestnut tree.
The Obelisk Winery was built on the green horizon in southern Czech Republic, with a unique view of Valtice and Pálava Hills where a former border guard platoon was once stationed. National borders once in need of protection are now the site of a beautiful winery and lush vineyards, carefully landscaped and maintained.
Seat of AON Central and Eastern Europe, a.s. is located on a corner of the main square in Prague, Wencelas Square. Our very first commission in historical neo-baroque building by Friedrich Ohman from 1896 was a small task of lunch room refurbishment. Second assignment was design of a small part of office open space and the third one was already a masterplan of the whole floor of 1100m2 total area including complete project documentation and supervision of the building process.
Nejen Bistro is located in a growing Prague district of Karlín which was affected by the hundred-year flooding in 2002. This event is reflected in the interior of the bistro, and thus the walls struck by the water were cleaned down to the bricks and kept that way, while the remaining parts of the bistro are plastered. However, the main motive of the bistro is the interconnection of the restaurant and the kitchen. They form a unified area where everyone sees everything and nothing is hidden. Just like the meals, the interior is also clean without unnecessary additives, and it doesn’t hide anything, maybe just the passing through the library. With nightfall, the bistro brightened through the day changes into an intimate place perfect for tasting great wines thanks to clumps of slightly glowing “Edison light bulbs”.
This spacious flat in high-rise block, which was designed for a young man, passed through a total reconstruction. The exchange of flat-infrastructure was necessary. The other points were complete change of bathroom and kitchen layouts and changes of floor and walls surfaces.
The project of two little bathrooms and a kitchen of a maisonnette flat in Prague Vinohrady entrusted a young couple to the architect Dagmar Štěpánová.
The task to move the Czech Promotion communication agency in a mere three months from the famous Winternitz Villa by Adolf Loos to the unreconstructed premises of Karlín Palace with its own, albeit not as famous, history seemed fatuous, even naïve at first. Yet it was the time pressure which shaped the design itself, as well as the method of collaboration with the client and contractors. Purely a concept specified and defined the start of the process, leading to the overall unified vision, which prevented any subsequent disagreements or delaying discussions over individual parts of the proposal. Therefore, the extremely rapid establishment of absolute trust was required between the two parties. Such an approach was risky, but at the same time intensely motivating to all involved persons.
Katka and Honza are cooking all the time. So they decided to burn their new house as well. But not from ground to top. Just only all around. Their boys are wondering around with hands full of coal looking forward for winter and making snowman. Hopefully there are some coal buttons left for snowman coat. Katka is harvesting carrots for his nose. Just tomcat with dog are sharing doghouse together. Spending long evenings trying to wake up memories for lovely and warmy flat in Prague.
