Clubhouse of Eindhoven hockey club Oranje-Rood opened: eye-catching, functional and sustainable
Diederendirrix architecture & urban development designed a striking pavilion for hockey club Oranje-Rood. The large canopy built from laminated wooden joists in a triangular grid, supported by a few pillars, is extraordinary. The structure extends from the outside into the inside and creates a special interior with an unobstructed view of the fields. This year, Oranje-Rood originated from a merger between the successful top-class sports club Oranje-Zwart (first division champions for the last three years) and recreational sports club EMHC. This new start called for a new, modern clubhouse.
Residential building in former Philips Lighting head office first step toward new quarter Eindhoven
Diederendirrix architecture & urban development has transformed the former Philips Lighting head office into a vibrant residential building consisting of 616 lofts and penthouses. The new façade with gold coloured window frames enables quality small-scale housing in the middle of the city. The completion of Lighting is the first and key step in the realisation of the Victoriapark.
’t Karregat (1973) has been renovated by diederendirrix architects in conjunction with architecten|en|en and has space for the school, day-care centre and some community facilities. ‘t Karregat, designed by architect Frank van Klingeren, was one of the first multifunctional centres in the Netherlands. Underneath a large continuous roof, supported by steel umbrellas, he left free space without partitioning walls for a supermarket, small shops, primary schools, a sports hall, and a community centre. The building in the area Herzenbroeken in Eindhoven received ample international attention, but it turned out that the experimental lay-out didn’t work. The users themselves soon divided the space with partitions until the space underneath the roof was totally congested.
“We have designed the ideals of that time with current functionalities and techniques.” Paul Diederen, architect diederendirrix

The organization of financial services ‘’De Lage Landen’’, wants to implement ‘the new world of work’ in its organization. As a result, a new location was marked for the main entrance. This inner urban location is the inspiration for the design which resulted in an ultra thin, oval shed with a diameter of 16 meters. The spherical elliptical form has a circumference of 110 meters. It is by three attachment points connected with steel cables on the side walls of the main building and weighs 30 tons.
In a central location in Eindhoven, diederendirrix realised a striking office block in an existing but otherwise unremarkable industrial terrain. The massive block, Le Havre, stands rock-solid and independent in its setting. The concept for the building is clear and simple. The office units are placed around a central hall so that the opportunity of meeting co-workers is maximized. At ground level the building is enclosed by a patio which creates a direct and optimal relationship between the interior and the exterior.
This housing project is located within a former industrial area in the city of Eindhoven that was redeveloped into a residential neighborhood named Stripe S and composed of two building blocks. The E’ Tower forms the entry to this new development, with 110 apartments dispersed across its 22 floors, while a separate auxiliary building echoing the former’s façade rises 10 stories and consists of 36 apartments.
On the edge of the centre of Eindhoven sixteen townhouses and eighteen apartments were built above a communal basement garage, in a setting in which every direction has a different character. The apartments are located in a tower built on columns situated in the Dommelplantsoen. A compact, low-rise development of patio dwellings with strategic views of the park-like surroundings is located on the other side of the repositioned Zwembadweg.
One project stood out due to its architectural and spatial qualities, the inspirational client, and the innovative approach to a vital redevelopment task. Building Anton and Gerard put the redevelopment of Eindhoven in the limelight, putting it on the map as a creative city.
