The project is about a rehabilitation of a house built in the 50´s. The client asked to reclaim the structure of this cold, humid, dark house and open to the garden. The Project reclaimed the original structure by revealing what was underneath layers of materials after years of alterations. What allowed to release the essence of the structure: 21 cm / 8.26” thick brick walls and concrete slabs.
This project questions the archetype of the house and organizes different spaces around a central patio. This design solution was born out of the need to respect every existing tree on the site and to provide every space with sunlight both during the morning and the afternoon. The result is an “exploded house”, where the dwelling is composed of isolated volumes that are placed according to the views, the orientations and the existing vegetation.
Palmas House is located in Texcoco, Estado de Mexico, close to the Historic Centre polygon and next to the main avenue that connects the entire territory. The external conditions and challenges of the site are the acoustics and the congestion of traffic jams. In relation to the temperature conditions, the area has a constant warm climate during the daytime and low temperatures during night.
Conceptually speaking, its design is based on a box set of simple shapes that generate aesthetical rotated volumes in such a way that allow to take full advantage of the available natural resources, creating functional spaces that serve as frame to the landscapes each area offers.
This house located in the State of Mexico was operated entirely with the completion of the original project to suit the needs and tastes of their new owners. The changes were very complete because the original architectural program was not suitable for the goals he had for his family rest house .
Renovating spaces is an important activity of interior design and allows architecture to extend its use in a dignified and functional way. In the project for this house one of the most important objectives was to incorporate the exhibition family´s art collection into a contemporary atmosphere.
The Project is located in a high sloping site of a neighborhood in the North of Mexico City, where the climate is cold and humid during rainy season. Under these premises the house is settled on a square platform of two levels; a partially buried first level that houses the service areas and playroom; while the second level is placed above the midlevel of the site.
