Built on speculation, this tropical modern residence is located on DiLido Island in Miami Beach. Open water views of Biscayne Bay informed the design of this six-bedroom home. The Master Suite and Great Room feature walls of glass, while generous overhangs protect the home from the elements. Natural light floods the entire home as a result of a strategically placed entry courtyard. The home is currently offered for sale for $13,800,000 through Calibre International Realty.
This project is a series of commissioned beach-side park restroom pavilions. Each of these pavilions share a common design signature. The design team used an abstract version of sea-oats, vegetation synonymous with the gulf beaches of Sarasota, to create a continuous theme in the façade. The abstract use of ‘sea-oats’ as a screen element was used to unite the ramp with the building rather than having the ramp appear to be an appendage to the design. The wood ramp system is suspended from the cast-in-place concrete roof slab with stainless steel rods. As one ascends the ramp, the natural preserve encloses the building volumes which are oriented to provide enhanced views of the Gulf of Mexico and Sarasota Bay.
The McKenna Residence incorporated the renovation of an existing “ranch” style home into a new masterplan for the property. The new wing houses the Master Bedroom and Great Room while the renovated older wing houses kids’ bedrooms and recreation areas. The existing pool was also retained in the overall design. Materials include Florida keystone, ipe cladding and a metal roof.
