Construction Begins on New Campus’ Inaugural Building
On March 22nd Florida Polytechnic broke ground on the first building of its new campus. Designed by renowned architect, Santiago Calatrava, the new Innovation, Science & Technology building will establish the design scheme for all other structures within the campus’ master plan, which Calatrava is also responsible.
At the extension of the axis of the fifth avenue, pier museum becomes the ending of the urban space above the sea. The typology of building expresses the conversion and interaction of spatial energy. Simulating the natural growth, along the view toward the seascape in distance, the structure stretch from the beach end to the sea, converts the city space formed by street to a floating seascape terrace, planar pier evolutes to an organic structure, and provides the free path of promenade above the sea level.
Software used: Mcneel Rhinoceros 4.0 for modeling; Maxwell Render 1.6 for rendering; Autodesk AutoCAD 2007 for drawings and Adobe Photoshop 9.0 for final process.
A dramatic and elemental steel infrastructure creates the possibility for ultimate volumetric flexibility where the homeowner can customize spatial prerogatives. Rising 22 stories over the design district in Miami, Florida—Cube promotes its occupants to design their own domain with the possibility of connecting multiple cube modules vertically, horizontally, and diagonally in addition to creating double height volumes, garden voids and cantilevered living environments. Generated by desire and need rather than architectural assumption, the volumetric play of the building creates intriguing arrangements of solid and void— a true interactive architecture.
COR, the first sustainable, mixed-use condominium in Miami, Florida represents a dynamic synergy between architecture, structural engineering and ecology. Rising 400’ above the Design District, Cor extracts power from its environment utilizing the latest advancements in wind turbines, photovoltaic’s, and solar hot water generation— while integrating them into its architectural identity.

BIG PRESENTS ITS FINALIST SCHEME FOR ST. PETERSBURG PIER
The city of St. Petersburg has released the three final designs for the St. Pete Pier including BIG’s the Wave, conceived as a strong character on the skyline and waterline of St Petersburg and Tampa Bay. Its characteristic waves and curves lend themselves to an array of activities around and within them.
The Pier is integral to the identity of St. Petersburg – a landmark – or rather watermark – that is a point of reference and a gathering point for the people of the city.
This project in Sarasota, Florida centered on creating an elegant backyard living space in which the Owners could live and entertain. Both design professionals, they requested a new pool house, pool and landscape layout that embraced modern design but had a sensitivity to the adjacent 1926 historic home that would share the site.

The Translational Research Institute for Metabolism and Diabetes (TRI) facility will focus on the study of diabetes, obesity, and the metabolic origins of cardiovascular disease – bridging the gap between the research lab and the patient’s bedside and allowing for scientific discoveries and treatments to be developed more quickly and on a more personalized level.

Rosé was designed using a conceptual framework that acknowledges and indulges in both the glamour and the vibrancy of the 1960’s by paying homage to the lifestyle of the celebrities of the time… As icons Bianca and Mick Jagger, exemplified the glamour of the time, and were observed for their cutting edge style and flavor, designer Emilio Pucci, was at the cutting edge of fashion. Known for his geometric prints in a kaleidoscope of colors, he seemed an appropriate symbol from which to draw the interior architecture of the space.
