The City Unified by The Urban Ramp of the Espace Libre Agency
How to connect the city center of Creil to the edge of the Oise, to a district positioned on a plateau, while crossing a remarkable landscape on a vertical line of 40m?
It was the challenge of this project led with determination by the team of the agency Espace Libre, landscapers and urban planners, with the support of the city of Creil.
archi5 was founded in 2003, the fruit of its founders’ common agency experience and the approach they share to architecture.
A context-based approach to projects is key : the site, the programme, the social and cultural challenges are all examined, analyzed and compared. These data are then transformed into questions.
The projects offer a dynamic and comprehensive response to those issues to the highest standard that has come to be archi5’s trademark.
Working for children requires designing places with both soft and playful atmospheres, conducive to the awakening of children and their well-being. The idea here is to constitute a protective place but turned outward.
Internal circulations are treated as places of life and passages, naturally lit, appropriated by staff and children. The staff will be able to easily supervise children. Throug the circulations, the interior of each room is visible.
The project is placed in an arboreous and pedestrian area, in the heart of the historic town of Perthes-en-Gâtinais, located in the south of region Seine and Marne (77).
With conscious efforts of reducing disturbance, construction was still completed in a rapid 10 months. The city in which the project took place is a part of the regional natural park (PNRGF) which leads the project to be completed with highs environmental ambitions. The project is built in both wood framing and cladding, and its linear layout creates a spacious area that encouraging the ongoing pedestrian nature of the mall and kindergarten location.
This new space is visually more generous and reinforces the bucolic and intimate nature of the undergrowth into which the new equipment is inserted. Coming to “life” this park provides the opportunity to continue its inscription in the history of the city and offers a generous space appropriable for all Perthes residents and their children.
Located on Rue du Roi de Sicile in the heart of Paris’ 4th arrondissement, the 9Confidentiel hotel is the latest 5-star hot spot, designed from start to finish by designer Philippe Starck.
The building’s Art Deco facade with its bow windows houses 29 rooms across six floors, three of which are suites with a panoramic view over the roofs of Paris, as well as a breakfast room, a cocktail bar and a tea room.
Shifting between neo-classical and ultra-modern, this intimate space is inspired by the subtle and sophisticated poetry of the 1920s. A location that is passed on in whispers, an invitation to a certain confidentiality…
In late 2011, we returned to Grenoble, a place of environmental experimentation with a previous project that made its mark on the ZAC de Bonne: the “Coming Out”.
This time, another challenge is tackled, the one of height – with the same desire to push the limits of ’experimentation with energy performance even further. In an attempt to resolve the issue of thermal bridges once and for all, balconies had to be eliminated.

There was a building slated for construction on the new Avenue de la Presqu’île de Grenoble, in the “Cambridge” ZAC (joint urban development zone).
The client, a property developer with demanding standards, knows its clientele well.
Thus, most of the project’s features were already determined in the program: a recessed top floor flanked by two duplexes, a platform pierced with immense glazed shop windows, large balconies and beautiful openings on the façade to allow sunshine and the view to penetrate the interior.
With this litany of invariable promotional imperatives, the overall effect was slowly becoming a “predictable” project, altogether rather banal. In addition, the zone’s seismicity imposed the simplification of its volume: Amen.

Closed since 2012, this four-star hotel, an emblematic monument of Dax (Landes, France), embarks on a new life, more open towards the city and its population. The landscaping was created in association with EXIT and makes a tremendous contribution, orienting the building towards Dax, fluidifying its approaches and capitalising on L’Adour and Thiers Square. The entranceways of the various entities of the project were simplified in order to accentuate this new programmatic view.
We designed this hotel as a succession of plans and sequences condensing the long traveling shot that leads the traveler to Paris. Access to the hotel is from a reception on the roof of the city, a place from which one can apprehend the opposite way, to understand Paris, this open territory which unfolds in a limitless continuum, whose the white horizon is punctuated by magnificent emergences. Our project will be a place characterized, surprising, a destination, a landmark, a connivance, a point of view on the capital.
The town of Mouvaux first created an urban hub where a school, housing units and sports hall were built. A cultural centre was subsequently added, erected on a plot of land conferring optimum visibility and bringing the urban development zone to fruition. The aim of this project was to create a cultural instrument including a performance hall, premises for associations, a venue for symposiums and conferences and workshops for artistic practices such as theatre, music and the visual and plastic arts.
