Loft L in Paris, France by Jbmn Architectes

Sunday, August 20th, 2017

Article source: Jbmn Architectes

The renovation of this apartment seeks to exploit the high height available in this former artist studio located on the top floor of a Parisian building built at the beginning of the 20th century. Two mezzanines are arranged and face each other around a large central void. Stairs made of metal and solid wood, arranged symmetrically, give access to the rooms thus created. Large balustrades in fishing nets delimit the living area of the staircase. With the opening/closing of large internal shutters, the rooms can open on the central void or on the contrary isolate themselves, allowing a flexibility of uses.

Contribute to a new polarity in the landscape

Located across from the St. Etienne station on the Esplanade de France, the influence of the intervention at the heart of the BIA Châteaucreux is a link between neighborhoods and horizon lines, a low point in the topography of St. Etienne in front of a preferred route to the city center. Combined with the scale of the project and the symbolic value of the program, This unique location gives the project a special status in the construction of the city. The project subscribes to the contemporary idea of the construction of the city that leads to the creation of rhythms, of multipurpose spaces contributing to the realization of a less linear environment, able to evolve and mutate. The goal is to embed the large commercial component of the neighbourhood in a more complex urban dynamic, made of interlocking assemblies essential to any large and vibrant city. Thus, the project offers an open floor plan, initiating continuity and affiliations, creating links between polarity and panoramas, hills and plains, lower and upper town.

Doppelgänger in Saint-Molf, France by KARST architecture

Article source: KARST architecture

Located in a tiny village facing salt marshes on the French Atlantic coast, this wooden house extension is a modest holiday home and a writer’s retreat. The client’s idea for this project was born several years ago when saving a few old, massive oak beams from the demolition of a neighboring farm. The idea appealed to us but it was all we knew when we first visited the site.

Article source: OVERCODE architecture urbanism

The project aims at improving the living space of a house that sits on a 100% built terrain. The house is located in a dense neighborhood near Paris, Saint Ouen (93).

The existing site was divided into 3 parts: a parking space on the street level, an old workshop in the center and a house at the back. The house has been recently restored and shelters on the ground floor the living spaces, which were very dark due to the warehouse in front of it.
