Bridging the Gap by Studio BÄNG Designed using Rhino and Grasshopper

Wednesday, September 28th, 2011

Article source: Studio BÄNG

Thinking about a modular, quickly deploy- able and adaptable bridge design a quite complex shape based on parametric design strategies and digital fabrication methods was developed. We started to parametrize points in X, Y and Z direction at relevant areas of a bridge in Rhino Grasshopper. Four points at the beginning and the end of the bridge and four in the middle. These 12 parametrized points give the opportunity to steer the crosssection of the bridge at three important areas. Based on these points the defi nition creates three frames one for each end of the bridge and one in the middle.

More projects by Henning Larsen Architects

Siemens’ new headquarters is an urban, recognisable composition of plazas, courtyards and alleys that will unfold a new, vibrant urban space in central Munich. Siemens and Munich are integrated into a harmonious whole by merging two archetypal entities – mass (Siemens) and void (Munich) – into a complementing formation. The city opens up the mass, which in response opens up to the city.

The Möllmann residence is located in a residential area, mainly comprising detached houses, outside Bielefeld. The traditional regional architecture served as a point of orientation for the exterior of the house. In accordance to the barns that are popular for agricultural use in this rural region the residence was designed as a lengthened, rectangular structure with a double-pitched roof without overhang. KAP 686 – The long road to a new square in Cologne, Germany by Metrobox Architekten

Thursday, September 8th, 2011

Article source: Metrobox Architekten

Case history

Cologne Cathedral was completed 130 years ago and for 25 of those years skaters have firmly taken possession of Roncalliplatz in front of the southern facade. During this time, a separate culture was formed and for many, the square became an area that they identified with.  However, in recent years the scene has been increasingly viewed as a problem.  Established interest groups exerted pressure, and some were of the opinion that skating should simply be banned.  The city was full of good intentions and wanted to resolve the conflict in cooperation with the skaters. However, there was no point of contact among the skaters.
