Reconversion in Ghent, Belgium by Axel Devroe

Thursday, August 4th, 2016

Article source: Axel Devroe

About the site:

It all started when three friends bought an abandoned industrial lot that was in a terrible condition, but had an exceptional potential for transformation.

Situated in the middle of a city-block in the dense, historic center of Ghent, the L-shaped lot is surrounded by back gardens and townhouses.

The existing buildings were divided into three houses. Between each new dwelling small patches were scooped out of the buildings, making room for enclosed private gardens with a distinctive urban feel.

House on Gelukstraat in Ghent, Belgium by Dierendocnkblancke Architecten

Wednesday, March 28th, 2012

Article source: Dierendocnkblancke Architecten

A very small plot in the centre of ghent. The client wants an extension of his house that borders the building plot, and an apartment to rent. On the ground floor we provide an atelier connected through a small courtyard with the owner’s house and entrance to the parent apartment. Given the very limited surface, circulation is minimized by placing the stairs to the upper floor in the living space. To maximize as much as possible the useful surface of the apartment, a very thin cladding is opted. So the whole volume is covered with a 2mm thick PVC-film.
