This project takes place in the urban planning of the Plateau de Saclay, along the public spaces chain, defined by XDGA and MDP. Within a coherent architecture, it links together the metropolitan scale of the site and a more intimism and domestic scale related to the dwellings.
In order to conserve the size of the urban composition, this area composed of three plots has been thought as one entire block with big courtyards, crossed on one of its diagonal by a pedestrian path. The Canyon, element of the urban composition, is emphasized by a linear and stepping building aligned on the north limit, where is located the main part of the program.
In an era of privatization, cities are facing a major challenge: investment in the public domain depends increasingly on the private sector. As a result of this reframing of the collective agreement, the role of architecture is often reduced to the visual impact of its shape and surface rather than contributing to a new educational, social and civic dimension. The competition launched by the Ecole Centrale Paris for the design of a new engineering school has become the perfect opportunity to explore ways to answer this demanding challenge.

LAN, in association with Clément Vergely, recently won the competition for building a student residence of approximately 1,000 units facing the École Centrale on the Plateau de Saclay and has submitted the project for building permit.
