Raft Island Residence in Gig Harbor, Washington by Studio DIAA

This modest home is designed to occupy the footprint of an existing cabin nestled among native conifers on a steep hillside along the shore of the southern Puget Sound. The clients wish to live in close proximity to the sea, where they could tend to oyster beds and be able to enjoy their shared passion for saltwater scuba diving on site. Working with a modest budget and significant site constraints led to a humble and compact form, while creating selective areas of floor to ceiling glass allowed for visual connections to the sea from nearly every room in the home.

Cliff House in Gig Harbor, Washington by Scott Allen Architecture

Tucked against the wall of a natural cliff and right on the water’s edge in Gig Harbor, Washington, this project answered the unique challenges of its site. The footprint for the new structure replaces an old guest house and boathouse, and was limited in its size by an agreement through a regulatory process.

St. Anthony Hospital in Gig Harbor, Washington by ZGF Architects LLP

Prior to the completion of the new St. Anthony Hospital, the South Sound Region represented one of the largest population centers in the State of Washington without a central community hospital. As a result more than 3,500 emergencies and 4,000 patients requiring overnight care had to travel outside of the area for treatment annually. The 80-bed, 250,000 SF full service hospital in Gig Harbor addresses the need for critical health care services within this growing region, and provides quality care in a patient-centered environment that celebrates the local community’s Native American and maritime history, rich natural landscape, and the connection between nature, health and well-being.
