Article source: ZEST architecture

An old stone-built ruin in a breathtaking setting, surrounded by 25 hectares of oak forest with distant views of the Mediterranean sea.

Local building regulations stipulate that the building had to be rebuilt as it once was, but the owners were seeking a more spectacular and modern house.

FERRER XOCOLATA in Girona, Spain by arnau estudi d’arquitectura

Wednesday, June 17th, 2015

Article source: arnau estudi d’arquitectura

Building a dream is not easy, but that was the commission. Yes, as usual, but that time it was like never before.

We had to renovate an old building in order to create a space entirely devoted to chocolate. That was the sweet dream of Jordi, the chocolate maker. We had to do it withemotion, with metaphors, with a sense of humour… We had to be at the level of Easter cakes and chickens!

Sunflower House in Girona, Spain by Cadaval & Solà-Morales

Friday, June 5th, 2015

Article source: Cadaval & Solà-Morales

The Sunflower house sits on a privileged condition of limit; in the border within the water of the Mediterranean sea and the hard rock of the Costa Brava, between the wild nature of Cabo de Creus and the urban settlement of El Port de la Selva, a small fisherman village in the border of France and Spain. A place where the Pyrenees get into the water, generating an exceptional wildlife richness, both in the coast and in the water. The house wants to identify each of the particularities of this magnificent landscape; with its geometry, the house frames a multiplicity of different and specific views, and builds up content spaces that inhabit great big framed views.

CASA LLORELL EN LA COSTA BRAVA in Girona, Spain by DOSARQUITECTES

Friday, April 24th, 2015

Article source: DOSARQUITECTES

A house situated in the heart of the Costa Brava with incredible views to a coast bay.
Costa Brava is different of other coasts because of the big forest slopes next to the sea.
The challenge was to fit a big program in a volume with some formal contrast with the nature of the place. So we propose some cubes placed as if they were randomly thrown, like if they were fallen from the sky, but finally they really derive from the fan-shape of the plot.

Carles Rahola State Public Library in Girona, Spain by Mario Corea, Lluís Moran, Sebastián Guerrico

Tuesday, January 20th, 2015

Article source: Mario Corea, Lluís Moran, Sebastián Guerrico

The new library is located on a large rectangular plot in the center of Girona. Bounded on the north by busy Avenue Emili Grahit, the site is embedded in a dense and compact neighborhood of tall residential blocks. These urban conditions – plus the fact that this is the largest library in the network of public libraries in Catalunya – contributed to the development of a design strategy based on two main considerations.

JUNCAL & RODNEY HOME in Begur, Girona, España by Pepe Gascon Arquitectura

Tuesday, June 17th, 2014

Article source: Pepe Gascon Arquitectura

Some houses close in on themselves when connection with their surroundings is not desirable. However, others open up to their setting when it is clear that it endows them with qualities and provides their raison d’être and hence must become an intrinsic part of the project. This is the case of the Juncal y Rodney home since it is built on a plot of land located on the Begur massif (Girona) in one of the most sublime settings of the Costa Brava. The longitudinal volume of the north-south-facing building of two storeys – the upper one with three bedrooms and the lower one with the shared spaces – is thus open to the Mediterranean and the series of mountains and coves that are glimpsed on the horizon.
