The project consisted in adapting it to present-day needs and repairing the constructive pathologies and deficiencies of a building which, though not listed architectural heritage, is unique and forms part of a railway complex that has an important historic and cultural value.

Espai Ridaura in Girona, Spain by Capella Garcia Arquitectura (designed using ArchiCAD)

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2012

Article source: Capella Garcia Arquitectura

This is a multipurpose facility in Santa Cristina d’Aro, Girona, in the district of Baix Empordà. Santa Cristina d’Aro is situated close to the coast, in the upper reach of the Vall d’Aro, and the river Ridaura flows through it close to the town centre. The municipality is growing as a result of the large amount of tourist activity during the summer months, which means that it already possesses considerable leisure and cultural facilities. Nonetheless, the facilities in Santa Cristina were very basic and quite a few years old, as well as being at some distance from the town centre. So much so that the concerts of the Santa Cristina International Chamber Music Festival took place in the parish church.

Casa Pocafarina in Girona, Spain by Hidalgo Hartmann

Friday, February 17th, 2012

Article source: Hidalgo Hartmann

The house is situated on a corner plot with some good views over the distant landscape. In order to enjoy these views and avoid the neighboring buildings, the ideal configuration for the house was to create a compact form of cross which is placed at the center of gravity of the plot. The four wings are oriented in a way that ensures the selected views from inside the house.

Foam, Cultural Centre in Girona, Spain by Carles Sala and Relja Ferusic, from SALA FERUSIC Architects, Barcelona

Thursday, September 1st, 2011

Article source: Carles Sala and Relja Ferusic, from SALA FERUSIC Architects, Barcelona

The Cultural Centre of ‘Roses’ is based on the design of mechanisms to conduct and qualify the natural lighting, so as to adapt it to the requirements of the centre. Therefore, the building has been considered from the idea of the sea foam, as the volume has been fluffed through  a patio that spreads the natural light into the building, while a white perforated skin tones the light down and guarantees the energy efficiency of the building.

Article source: Mias Arquitectes

Annexa-Joan Puigbert is the name of the school that occupies a T-shaped building from the 50s of the 20th century. Its main building lies along the main street, and in the middle point there is another building which is perpendicular. The building’s topographical position is strange, due to the steep hill where the school was built.

Squares In Puigcerdà, Spain by Pepe Gascón

Wednesday, April 20th, 2011

Remodelling of the most central and relevant public space in Puigcerdà, originally very much deteriorated, with an excessive amount of traffic that diminished the civic and integrating potential of the space.

Traffic is eliminated, concentrating road and service communication on one side, freeing up a large central space. Two large linear flowerbeds protect the pacified area from the bustle of traffic working as filters between the two. A number of elements of street furniture simultaneously emphasise the physical and visual limit of the squares themselves. The space, which is very irregular with a highly uneven perimeter, is geometrised and arranged using granite as the sole material for paving, as a support of the different uses and distinguishing the areas with different formats, weaving a tapestry of great expressiveness. The lighting and urban furniture elements are arranged in line with the directrices marked by this area. Now the squares are conceived as a space conducive to rest and encounters, that allows the surrounding architecture to be heard, the chorus of traditional buildings the squares have as a backdrop.

Alemanys 5 in Girona, Spain by Anna Noguera Architect

Tuesday, March 29th, 2011

The reform has been approached as a search for the most intrinsic characteristics of the actual construction, while the building is freed of additions, surface elements and recent reforms, interpreting the old elements not so much through an historical optic as through their architectural qualities.
