Qvillestaden in Göteborg, Sweden by Bornstein Lyckefors

Sunday, December 20th, 2020

Article source: Bornstein Lyckefors

The district of Kvillestaden in Gothenburg was for a long time a declining remnant of the now closed shipyard industry along Hisingen’s docks. Today the district has a strong upward trend where old houses are mixed with expansive new developements. In this context Bornstein Lyckefors has designed an apartment building on the lot of a former post office.

Carlanderska Hospital in Sweden by White Arkitekter

Thursday, February 28th, 2019

Article source: White Arkitekter

Where new meets old. By echoing the original plans, White Arkitekter’s new design of Carlanderska Hospital respects the landmark building’s well-known atmosphere and expression yet displays its own unique character.

New meets old

Carlanderska Hospital in Göteborg, Sweden, has provided specialist healthcare to public and private patients since 1927. The extension and transformation project primarily houses technology-intensive functions such as surgery, x-ray and sterilisation, but also adds new entrances, staff facilities and a restaurant. White Arkitekter used the same type of materials – red brick and a copper roof – for the extension as that of the original building, unifying the new with the old. The coloured joints and medieval-inspired brick pattern further ensures that the new structure naturally blends into the setting.

The architecture is dictated by two factors to enable modern care and treatment within the original site and correspond to the existing expression, Image Courtesy © White Arkitekter

Kjellgren Kaminsky Hq in Göteborg, Sweden by Kjellgren Kaminsky Architecture

Sunday, February 18th, 2018

Article source: Kjellgren Kaminsky Architecture

Kjellgren Kaminsky’s renovation and interior design of its own premises on Viktor Rydbergsgatan 14 in Gothenburg combines caution with bold approach. The office is housed in a 1917 listed shipowner’s villa, so all solutions are reversible and in harmony with the beautiful original decor. We have chosen a warm color scheme with soft and genuine materials that match the original wooden walls. From the main entrance you enter the office’s meeting room, a stepped seating area combined with the library. A large open space has been divided into smaller spaces using newly built meeting rooms and shelf walls. The office has been furnished with a large proportion of used and self-manufactured furniture. The work on BREEAM certification of the office is underway, which affects both the interior and the daily work.

Sweden has a high influx of Somalian refugees.

A small house that wants to be big. A small footprint and simple construction means low cost. That’s the idea when we set about designing a house for a young couple on a site surrounded by other single-family homes on the west side of Gothenburg.

Urban Lighthouse in Göteborg, Sweden by Marcio Rodrigues

Tuesday, August 14th, 2012

Article source: Marcio Rodrigues

The project was develloped to a student competition promoted by chalmers, to desing a “naturum”, a nature museum, deeply connected with the river of goteborg.

TWO MAIN INTENTIONS:

beacon/lighthouse_ light possibilities of the materials. The polycarbonate panels blends with the colours of the site and with the light. it’s a neutral material which gives and industrial sense to this architecture. during the day, a silent intervention, during the night a light reference for the river and to the city skyline.

Wooden Structures in Göteborg, Sweden by Márcio Rodrigues

Tuesday, August 14th, 2012

Article source: Márcio Rodrigues

The project was develloped along the year, and it started with an urban analysis of the area of Göteborg located north of Nordstan comercial area. The strategy was to create a green corridor, along a small river that could be enhanced and reutilized. The strategy was a sort of spine, made by a interconection of green spaces, and some common elements define it: the river, the new proposed cycling lane and the pedestrian way. The structures that we propose are modular and there is a possible extension to the global intervention: a logic that can be repeated along all the system, adapting to the conditions of each site.
