Landscapes of Cohabitation in Antiparos, Greece by doxiadis+

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2013

Article source: doxiadis+

How does one build on the stark beauty of a Cycladic landscape without destroying it? This project seeks an answer to that very question. Placing such a rich development programme on this highly sensitive site necessitates a careful examination of the natural and historic elements which characterise the landscape: the amphitheatrical circle of hills, the seasonal streams, the juniper trees and frigana vegetation, the pezoules (agricultural terraces) and the xerolithies (dry stone walls).

V’ammos Restaurant in Karaiskaki Stadium, Greece by Lmarchitects

Saturday, December 1st, 2012

Article source: Lmarchitects

The shell that houses the restaurant- Karaiskaki Stadium, which is built over the water, was a benchmark in the design proposal.
The wave of the sea that existed in place is introduced in the design of the space in the form of an optically moving roof element. This element, which is the result of parametric design, dominates the environment and gives identity to the restaurant.

Tourkovounia as a Green – Wind Landscape in Athens, Greece by Andreas Demertzis, Ioannis Katsanos, Thanasis Farangas

Article source: Andreas Demertzis, Ioannis Katsanos, Thanasis Farangas

The reason for selecting and analyzing this concept was the examination of the area of Athens. The city is characterized by the growth and development of new buildings. Even if those new structures improved the every day life of the residents, the overall effect on the character of the city suffered.
We selected this particular concept because we noticed the negative impact of those urban structures on the landscape of Athens and that the city is “eating away” the landscape. Our intention is to create the opposite effect: for the landscape to merge with the city.

Daphne in Santorini, Greece by 24D-Studio

Tuesday, August 14th, 2012

Article source: 24D-Studio

Daphne is a site-specific installation situated within the tunneled stairway that interplays with the notion of concealing and revealing the ancient interior surfaces of the tunnel leading to the peak of Pyrgos. Made entirely of self-supporting paper panels, Daphne creates an enclosure that intervenes the visitors’ perception of the existing conditions as a container of conglomerated memory as the paper panels age and take their shape accordingly to the local condition. The installation is part of Santorini Biennale of Arts that will take place until September 30, 2012.

L’ovella Negra Bar in Thessalonika, Greece by Alexios Vandoros

Wednesday, April 25th, 2012

Article source: Alexios Vandoros

L’ovella Negra

At the streets Syggrou and Valaoritou takes place a new urban transformation of the city of Thessaloniki, Greece. The old small industry shops are converted to coffee-bars, pubs, alternative restaurants…

The area combines the old with the new, the alternative with the common. And, basically, ‘cheap’ entertainment..

A new place was created there, a coffee-bar, in a building that is said to be the oldest in the town of Thessaloniki. It was built at the end of the 19th century, and was the private house of the famous merchant ‘Allatini’, known as such since 1926.

House A+B in Paros, Greece by buerger katsota architects

Sunday, April 22nd, 2012

Article source: buerger katsota architects

The scheme aims at accommodating the different needs of two families on vacation. The single volume of one building is broken into smaller ones, different in height and size, placed freely but in relation to each other resulting into an ensemble. The ensemble is sited upon a solid stone and concrete platform at 80cm above a preserved agricultural field in immediate adjacency to the sea. The site offered dramatic views out to the bay, the sea beyond and the island of Naxos. The ensemble sited within the buildable area designated by the planning laws, looks to exploit the views offered by its location and to orientate all its internal and shaded spaces towards the sea and the spectacular landscape.
