This mixed-use project for offices and a hotel is located in the heart of the city of Guadalajara. Its formal, emphatic, and unified volumetrics express its iconic nature.
The formal concept arises from the mixed-use character it will acquire, consisting of four stacked geometric volumes. Two of these are slightly offset, and exactly aligned on the rear face. These gestures of displacement are designed to interrupt the robustness of the building and express an elegant sense of movement. The lowest volume houses the hotel, and the three volumes above it are allocated to office use by three different corporations, each occupying one volume in its entirety.
The basis of this project was the desire to create a building in which all offices are well-ventilated, have natural light and take advantage of Guadalajara’s good climate, rendering air conditioning unnecessary.
In the search to create an architectural piece that comes from innovative forms and finds -in that quest- the paths to perpetuate this condition, Ricardo Agraz and Karina Castro combine efforts and imagination. The result is [ PC ] House, a dwelling based and tailor made for a family program that takes the land as the perfect frame for doing so: it takes the river’s length for self adaptation.
And once this natural environment is tamed, the structure is used to contain it within the house, entering the backyard towards the living room and dinning room.
The land is located in the limit of a closed condominium, with a height difference of 8 meters at the back, which allows us to release the views to the east of the metropolitan area of Guadalajara.
