Plan B Guatemala in Escuintla by DEOC Arquitectos

Monday, March 4th, 2019

Article source: DEOC Arquitectos

Plan B Guatemala was created in response to the disaster caused by the Volcán de Fuego eruption in June 2018. The ASIAPRODE Association initiated the project to construct 26 homes in order to cover the needs of the affected communities. In an open competition, DEOC Arquitectos came up with a proposal that meets the established requirements, the user’s profile, and the natural context.

The project consists of a permanent housing model for the displaced families: a 86m2 house within a plot of 8m by 19m. The construction is divided into two building blocks; the social-kitchen-bathroom zone is separated from the bedrooms by an interior courtyard. Circulation is minimized in order to guarantee the best usage of the different areas.

“Saúl Bistro, Majadas Once” mines patterns, materials and textures and collects them to make a fresh tropical atmosphere. One of the biggest design decisions is that the café is open-air, with no glass, to connect the project to the pedestrian walkways.

Saúl Bistro, Pradera Concepcion in Guatemala by Taller KEN

Wednesday, July 15th, 2015

Article source: Taller KEN

For “Saúl Bistro Pradera Concepcion” we wanted to challenge this typology of the generic suburban shopping center. Because the project is located at a high elevation, on the road to El Salvador, the client wanted the cozy feeling of a mountain house. To achieve this, the project needed to be separated from the commercial center to no appear like a theme-restaurant.

\”Saul Z¬¬¬¬¬ona 14\” is a house with many charms. Under one roof, we combine fashion, design, art, objects and food. Here, a union of culture and commerce full of surprises and small treasures entices clients and visitors to take the time to enjoy diverse experiences. It is a place to meet, to stop for a drink at the café, to shop at the store or to visit the terrace to have a long meal or just sit to read. The design’s playful qualities draw from cultural references.
