French Embassy in Haiti by Explorations Architecture

Wednesday, January 30th, 2019

Article source: Explorations Architecture

The new French Embassy of Haiti consists in one circular structure taking place in a large park. The whole project creates an elegant campus that is both, a place of representation for the French Republic and a space for daily work. The new Embassy is inspired by the tropical architecture of several periods and is made in respect of the memory of the land where it takes place. The proposal is to build pavilion with light steel and wood frame with facades that filter views and protect from climatic effects.

jacmel satellite city in Haiti by trans_city TC ZT gmbh (designed using ArchiCAD)

Wednesday, October 19th, 2011

Article source: trans_city TC ZT gmbh

Over the last 18 months, Christian Aulinger, Mark Gilbert and Georg Kogler of trans_city architecture and urbanism have developed a comprehensive plan for the reconstruction of Jacmel, Haiti based upon the concept of satellite cities located at the edge of the existing, earthquake-ravaged city center. (A concept developed in accordance with the universal design principals of the Housing Reconstruction Framework of the Haitian Government).

The concept includes an urban masterplan, and a proposal for prefabricated houses, in which the building shell is industrially manufactured in Austria, and finished by local hand workers.

Consistent with the content of the project, the architecture does not attempt to be spectacular or extravagant. Rather, it is the holistic integration of total urban system that makes this project interesting.

Haiti Mountain House in Haiti by NC-office

Thursday, May 5th, 2011

The project is a house prototype module for disaster relief areas – Haiti. The house is designed with the intent of creating a small self-sustained community. Our proposal seeks to minimize the area for a single house. The plan is divided into four 8’ x 8’ modules; each serving as a room. A bathroom/kitchen core divides the enclosed area into a sleeping quarter and a living/dining area. The fourth module is an exterior porch, which in turn can shift within the plan and provide a variety of public areas. The ‘L’ shape produced by the porch allows for the housing unit to be repeated in a small community while generating a private garden for each house.
