Gatti House in Hampshire, England by Adam Knibb Architects

Monday, September 16th, 2019

Article source: Adam Knibb Architects

The client’s aim was to create a contemporary extension to a historic family home, offering flexible spaces, whilst ensuring the addition fit sympathetically within its context. As privacy and security is important within a family home, the design will create a balanced relationship between large open living areas and private spaces. With both a south/ east facing garden it was important to maximise the natural light into the new spaces to negate any dark zones. The proposal, although contemporary in form, will blend in harmoniously with the surrounding and respect the Old Vicarage’s character.

Article source: Paul Cashin Architects

Marshall House is an extension to a Grade II listed dwelling in the village of Twyford, near Winchester, Hampshire.

The original house dates from the 17th Century, although it had been remodelled and extended during the late 18th Century.

The clients contacted us to explore the potential to extend their home in order to suit their growing family and active lifestyle.

Due to the constraints of living in a listed building, they were unsure as to what development possibilities were available.

Watson House Annexe in Hampshire, England by Strom Architects

Tuesday, June 18th, 2019

Article source: Strom Architects

This wooden-clad annexe, completed September 2017, replaced a dated structure in the grounds of a house that Magnus Strom worked on before he set up his practice. The main house was completed back in 2010, and the owner approached us in 2015 to replace the existing 2-storey annexe. The client wanted a fun and flexible space that could act as a party space and additional accommodation, when needed.

The Water Lily House in Hampshire, England by AR Design Studio

Monday, April 15th, 2019

Article source: AR Design Studio

Winchester based architects, AR Design Studio, have submitted plans for a new build ‘Paragragh 79’ (formally Paragraph 55) floating house in rural Hampshire. Entitled The Water Lily House, the house floats atop an existing disused reservoir that once served the surrounding fields. The design is derived from the initial concept of a floating lily pad, the proposal appears to delicately float upon the water.

Considering the lack of biodiversity on the reservoir, the design team saw this as an opportunity for the lake to become an asset to the site by improving the quality of the existing reservoir and the relationship between land and water.

Biodiversity not only informs the surrounding context, but also the initial concept, leaning heavily on a symbiotic relationship between the building and site. This has been distilled within the design process, and from this the form of the water lily emerged, the plant itself playing an important role in enhancing the ecosystems of pond life.

Briardene in Hampshire, England by OB Architecture

Thursday, November 9th, 2017

Article source: OB Architecture

Briardene is a small development of 2 detached houses on the site of a former bungalow in the village of West Wellow in Hampshire.

Our developer client wanted to maximise the potential of the site with a sensitive but contemporary scheme that would find favour with the planning officers. Our challenge was to convince the local authority and neighbours alike that a net gain of one unit was acceptable on what is quite a restricted site.

Salters Acres in Hampshire, England by OB ARCHITECTURE

Wednesday, November 8th, 2017

Article source: OB ARCHITECTURE

Salters Acres is a development of 3 detached houses on Stockbridge Road in Winchester.

The 3 houses were conceived in response to the suburban setting of the site on the edge of Winchester; the character of the area is quite mixed so we set out to establish a design that would feel comfortable within its setting without overtly replicating one of the various architectural styles in the vicinity.

Article source: OB Architecture

Paddock House was formerly a charming New Forest house whose character had been consumed by a series of unsympathetic modern extensions. It had been left unloved for a number of years and had fallen into a rather tired state; and its poor condition was sadly highlighted by the beautiful paddock setting which surrounded the house.
