Brick Cave in Hanoi, Vietnam by H & P Architects Joint Stock Company

Tuesday, June 12th, 2018

Article source: H & P Architects Joint Stock Company

The house is located in a suburban commune of Hanoi which has undergone a rapid process of urbanization. It is designedin a philosophy that it will help shape a place similar to the natural environment in an artificial manner.

The proposed structure of the house resembles that of a Cave. The overall structure is made up of and enclosed by two layers of brick wall meeting one another at an intersection, with alternate ‘green’ arrangements of plants and vegetables. Bricks have long been a familiar local material and widely used in rural areas of Vietnam with a simple manual construction method.

Article source: FARMING STUDIO

– We are young Vietnamese and Italian architects, with the intention of opening an architecture start-up in Vietnam. In October 2016, we returned to Hanoi to find a leasing office space. Surveying around Hanoi, we found out that a lot of balcony here are unused, probably because of dust, noise and burglary prevention problem of the urban area. Citizens hardly communicate – interact with the external environment, with surrounding neighborhood. We call those balconies are dead spaces.

– Being aware of the above mentioned, our team planned to rent a downtown house with the balconies in order to awake such spaces up by architectural solutions which create friendly – multifunctional open spaces.
