Peanuts in Hiroshima, Japan by UID Architects

Friday, September 27th, 2013

Article source: UID Architects

One circle is the completed form because it has strong centripetal characteristics. However, overlapping two circles changes the form that has various vectors and is not centripetal. It is that it becomes the space that does not prescribe the domain as various places to stay, and it is connected to the environment gently. I expect that babies bring up sensitivity in this architecture because “Peanut” is not completed form by the same token and is a plant bearing fruit in soil.

Article source: Future Studio

The concept of this house, “sunlight stage” is a proposal of the way of taking sunlight on the site where the condition of sunlight is severe. The taking point of sunlight is set to a high position of the north side of the house, and all plans arise there. It becomes the plan of the curved surface because running on of the sun is analyzed, and the angle of incidence is calculated, and brightness is brought to the residence space by the reflection of sunlight.

The site is located in a residential area developed on a gentle perch in Hiroshima, overlooking a far view of the Inland Sea and Miyajima. The land of this area is developed into platforms form with several levels. The architecture was requested to have a view over the roof of the neighboring house, standing one level lower, and to consider security, for the site is located at the edge of the residential area, and to leave some space for extension when the client opens a small shop in the future.

Glass Bridge as Haizuka Earthworks Projects, 1997~2007

This project is located at Haizuka dam construction area and as one of Haizuka Earthworks Projects*. We are commissioned from Mirasaka town, Hiroshima prefecture, Japan to design guardrail and pavement for the newly large bridge over the dam lake in collaboration with local people.  As a result, we put over 190 sheets of glass panel(300×1800mm) to the outside of guardrail. Furthermore, collaborating with Japanese artist, Hiroshi Fuji, we design the glass panel as an Encyclopedia of living things in haizuka dam area. Therefore, “Glass bridge” is a project as landscape design, as a small museum, as a communication art, and as an architecture.
