The project is hidden in a valley of Huangshan Scenic Area, near the Yungu Temple. Sitting at an altitude of 800 meters, the resort hotel is surrounded by mountains, clouds and mist. It embraces nature, and provides a serene environment.
Tangkou town, 1 km long from the south gate of Mount Huangshan, is the main life service and the tourist reception base. The project to be reshaped is located at no. 1 Xiaolingxia, Gang Village. The original building is a typical old-fashioned scenic hotel and seats at the west end of the whole building complex along the road. The Gang Village Road is located in the southeast with a wide visual field. The building faces the mountains to the southwest, a stream flowing by at the foot of the mountain. The courtyard plot, situating to the southeast façade of the original, looks like a triangle, and the whole boundary of the building is blurred.
The Qiyun Mountain Camp is a large natural adventure and extreme sport park in China. It is located by the Qiyun Mountain, a beautiful natural and sacred site as the birthplace of Taoism and the yin and yang symbol. We designed all the public services within the pristine natural setting of the park. Shipping containers are cut on a bias to generate the base units of the various buildings. They are joined, mirrored, tilted and recombined to fit the several programs and to make up new typologies. Three different areas are carefully inserted in the landscape considering the varying topography and are color-coded to create detectible landmarks within the natural setting.
Huangshan, located near the ancient villages of Hongcun and Xidi in China’s Anhui province, is home to one of the country’s most beautiful mountains. Known for its rich verdant scenery and distinct granite peaks, the beloved landscape has long inspired artists, offering them sheltered spaces for contemplation and reflection. As a UNESCO Heritage Site, the humanistic atmosphere and beautiful, tranquil environment has become an increasingly popular tourist destination. It is here that MAD Architects, led by Ma Yansong, has realized “Huangshan Mountain Village”.
